Very good points. Shell and Emma just filled out their passport applications last week and I had thoughts along the same lines. We are blessed.
On the other hand ... we missed you terribly last weekend. :-( Of course, we did serve Eastern NC style bbq (bbq, slaw, fried chicken, brunswick stew, boiled potatoes, corn bread sticks, hush puppies, sweeeeet tea) at the banquet. ;-) His Grace loved it! He was so pleased with everything that he announced to the crowd that although some folks think of North Carolina as a backwater, "you people are the really civilized ones!"
You should take doara to Lexington Barbecue sometime, if you haven't already. It's a place I can imagine he would fully enjoy. In fact, invite me along with you so I can watch (and participate in) the gustatory fun.
yeah, I already know of Dina's particular perversion when it comes to barbecue. You can imagine I heard about it at some length when going out to eat while visiting her at UNC-G... deep into hostile territory, there.
Still, nobody's perfect--and one can hope she'll come to her senses some day, and renounce the idea of defiling a good and wholesome pig with an otherwise harmless bottle of ketchup...
Apparently your bishop took to it quicker than ours has, for what it's worth! Emily (i.e., Mrs. Ben Tom Zack) said the Most Rev. Michael Burbidge made a bit of a face at its mention.
...That's what we get for bringing down Pennsylvanians, I suppose. Oh well. He'll be living here a while, and there are plenty of other things besides barbecue...
Well, apparently the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece is visiting Rome soon.
I don't know that his Holiness the Pope has yet become familiar with Southern hospitality, but I reckon if his Holiness fed his Beatitude some hush puppies and 'q, and let him wash it all down with a pitcher of tea, it might fill his stomach and warm his heart and put 'em both in a talking sort of mood. A while on the front porch gettin' acquainted might do them both (and the rest of us) a world of good.
That's Eastern 'q, of course. You know--for the Greeks.

It was a very joyous weekend.

I, myself, am bi-ritual when it comes to NC barbecue. I have been known to drive 350 miles one way for lunch in Lexington. Seriously.

No. Ecumenists. :)

I like to bring down Pennsylvanians as often as I can. (Metaphorically speaking, of course.)
