Last night, I didn't get to sleep at all

Yesterday afternoon, at around 5 PM, I met my beauteous and oft-praised jungle_goddess at the Broadway-Nassau station of the A train (for those not familiar with the New York City subway, but familiar with Billy Strayhorn, it's that A train). We were supposed to meet her uncle, too, but he was stuck at work. We headed to Brooklyn, switched to the F train at Jay Street, and took it to the last stop. When we got out, Connie was on Stillwell Avenue in Coney Island for the first time in over 15 years.

Why were we in Brooklyn? Because the Brooklyn Cyclones were hosting the New Jersey Cardinals at Keyspan Park, and we wanted to attend our first Cyclones game! Keyspan is a small stadium which holds about 7500 people. It had been raining earlier in the day, and was still drizzling when we arrived, so a fair number of spectators were probably scared off. However, it was a lot of fun, and the stadium afforded spectators a decent view from almost anywhere. We were about a dozen rows behind the home team dugout, on the right field side. First base was directly ahead of us.

The game was a lot of fun to watch, with some decent play, despite our Cyclones losing by a score of five runs to three. And, of course, it was great to watch professional (minor league) baseball in Brooklyn again, and to be in Coney Island for a few hours. I wonder how many other spectators go for the nostalgia fix.

The game ended shortly after 10. We took the subway back to midtown Manhattan, and then drove home, arriving shortly after midnight. All in all, a very nice evening. And now you understand the subject line. :-)
