Of the end of the world and terribly nerdy things

Well it's been a beautiful day if the rapture is indeed coming to scoop up people in 2 hours EST. First sunny day in a LONG time, beautifully warm and I didn't have work. Got up late, did laundry, got my long run in (and broke a 10 minute mile!) and have been lounging around with some intention to do things...just not with any real rush.

Bought my Otakon flights, by far the cheapest was to go with Southwest. Hopefully this year we won't get stuck waiting for the flight for 4 hours. Also finished up the housing form so I've secured my roommates and my staffing status. A mass of new people are joining the crew this year which should be fun. Got me a new Stage left manager it looks like too and hopefully some other fun things to do.

Signed up for the ACbigbang round 2...drafts are due in less than two weeks which I somehow construed as being a longer time in my mind. Oh well. This thing that's been fermenting in my head for a while needs to get onto virtual paper at the least so I'm hoping that will feel good. A deadline I think will help to get it out of me.

Debating on picking up a season pass to Doctor Who Season 6 as I barrel very quickly to the end of season 5 on Netflix. The Van Gogh episode both breaks my heart and is utterly and wholly inspiring. I'm very much liking Amy Pond and Matt Smith as the new Doctor. I was kind of nervous since for all the faults one might find in his portrayal I really enjoyed David Tennant.

I've been rather haphazardly keeping up with Supernatural Season 6. It's been all over the place in terms of style and while the writers might claim this is a step back to the first season, it's not a good one in my opinion. The clear and blatant rip of Neil Gaiman's Good Omens is also quite a bit more grating than I expected. I don't knock taking inspiration from good source...but blatant ripping is redundant. Castiel however has gotten infinitely more interesting this season. I really like his seminal episode where we get a pretty hefty look into his back story this season, mostly for the fact that it's an episode predicated on and about doubt. It was one of the good episodes in this incredibly rocky season. I still see the story as finished on some level but Castiel is still a favorite character, worth my interest for a little longer.

Friends were in from out of town all last week and I drank, ate, laughed etc way too much during that time. Hopefully August, we'll figure out a plan to do Chicago for a long weekend. Somewhere in there this summer I have to do a NY trip at least once if not twice. Visiting Margaret in NH is a must too, I still regret not having my camera for all the beautiful shots I missed on the drive home.
