Fark the UAW!!!

Arg.

I can't stand it! Why am I surrounded by idiots who prefer to implode themselves and others than listen to reason!!! My father works at Nutone's Madisonville Plant as an office manager... Shit has hit the fan recently as talks broke down and the plant locked out UAW members on Monday.

Nutone is almost a family business on my father's side... A couple generations have worked for Nutone and many family and friends work there... If everything had failed for me (thanks to this things may crumble) I might have even worked there.

Nutone has also said that they will mail out the employee's pay checks and the machinery that was being repaired is now being transferred to an Illinois facility with rumours flying of a possible move of operations to the PRC.

What was the sticking point that caused negotiations to fail and imperil all the workers and employees? Why healthcare! Or more specifically the Union has its head up it's anus in that regard. All that was being proposed was a sensible increase in co-pays and deductible from insanely low levels (it's like 7.50 for Glasses and Eye Exams) to levels like the salaried employees have (around 25% to 50% co-pay)...

But No! They can't have that because they are the UAW and they can do whatever the fark they want even if it brings everything down around them! They refuse to see that the world around them has changed! Healthcare has risen to insane levels and America's manufacturing base is being slowly destroyed by the return of the Middle Kingdom to the world's center stage.

I think that the fault here is the adversarial style of the UAW, it's always the Great Champion of the Workers the UAW against the greedy, evil, and black-hearted owners and management! When in actuality we're all on a sinking ship together while they are busily drilling holes in the hull for the 'benefit' of their members! They are like the rich man of the village who durring a famine refuses to share his food!

So far they have mostly blown themselves and America's manufacturing industry away in their madness... Maybe when the last American factory closes as the United States collapses into a factional, poverty stricken, third world nation and the Middle Kingdom once again freely bestrides the world they shall see their mistake... Until that time they will probably continue to sit on their thrones of gold propped up on rotting stilts complaining about the world around them but not looking at themselves...

Globalization is an almost inevitable march as technology bridges the gaps between nations... Complaining about it or trying to wall oneself off from the world is futile... One must adapt... Those who can will be the leaders in this new age...

Those who do not... such as the American Workers typified by the UAW will just lead a protest march into the ruins and trash heaps of history... For protesting about globalization now is almost like protesting against an oncoming storm... Those who adapt are busy stocking supplies and preparing themselves... The protestors are standing out in a hurracane complaining about the rain as they go flying through the air with their picket signs to be dashed against the rocks.

Maybe someone with some sense in the labor movement will take a hard look at themselves and realise they must change... If not... the rocks beckon...

politics, rants
