Summary : a not so successful plan
It is a common knowledge that end of the year is definitely the busiest time for Arashi. They usually have concert tour, filming for various New Year programs and individual work. Sleeping hours decrease rapidly to the point that sometimes they prefer to pass out in their green room instead going home, in order to save time. It is also well known that this year, 2016, Aiba Masaki has been chosen to MC Kouhaku and Sakurai Sho has a special drama to promote.
And in between their already tight schedule, they barely have time to spend with each other. But the perk of being a Sakurai is, however busy he is, he wanted to do something for his lover birthday. He has sacrificing his very limited sleep time to do the planning (as a well-planned man he is) for a surprise birthday party for Aiba. A simple candle light dinner, which the food will be bought at their favourite Chinese restaurant (he still doubted his cooking skill and he has no time to practise). And he also has ordered a limited edition iPod for Aiba since his iPod was broken. He even order 100 white roses and ask the florist to wrap the bouquet with red and green wrapper. When everything was ordered and arranged, Sakurai can’t help from being excited to see his lover’s reaction when his birthday come.
And to enhance the essence of the surprise, Sakurai did not texted or called his lover for a few days before his birthday. He also did not make any plan with Aiba regarding Christmas. He wanted Aiba not to suspect anything suspicious. And for that reason, he did not want to do it exactly on the 24th, but decided that the day after that will be great.
When the day comes, he has cleared his schedule for the day and sneaks into Aiba’s apartment using his spare keys to prepare everything. He set the table, choosing background song and do some cleaning to ease his lover. The food, flower and present arrived just as planned and everything was perfect.
Except the fact that Aiba didn’t return home as planned. According to his manager, his work will be done on 11.00 pm and by 11.30 pm, the tall idol should have arrived home. When the clock ticked pass 12.00 am, Sakurai starts panicking. He is so tempted to call his lover to check on him but hold his desire.
“I cannot spoil this. Maybe the filming took longer than scheduled.” He said, calming himself. To kill the time, he turns on the TV. Every few minutes, he will glances at his phone to see if there is any message from the other. He is also torn between wanting to send a birthday wish via email to Aiba or not. But in the end, he decided not to because he wants to say it in person. So he waits.
On the other end, Aiba is indeed finished the filming a bit late that scheduled due to some technical problems. 10 minutes approaching 12.00 am only the filming ended and the staff and his co-workers has prepared a small celebration for his birthday. When he reached his green room, it was already 1.30 am and he was dead tired so he decided to pass the night there and return home in the morning instead. He thought it is okay since he brought his car with him, so he can return any time.
Back to Aiba’s apartment, Sakurai is still waiting patiently. But he is also a human with limits. Fatigue from his work loads and preparing the party starts eating him so he pass out on the couch.
The next morning both of them wake up in different place with different emotion. Aiba is feeling refreshed and happy with the fact he has no more work to do for the day. For Sakurai, he was disappointed, frustrated and a bit angry. And the most disturbing fact is that he don’t know to whom should he be angry with.
Aiba arrived at his apartment to a view that he did not expected. A bunch of roses were decorating the entrance and he could smell the essence of candle that belongs to only one person he knows. He rushed in the apartment to search for his lover but he couldn’t find him anywhere so he concluded that the other has returned to his own apartment. He also found a box of his birthday present on the dining table which is readily set up with a note saying that the foods are in the refrigerator. Feeling guilty, he rushed to his car and drives toward Sakurai’s apartment.
In Sakurai’s apartment, Sakurai is sulking. He wrapped himself in a blanket and sat on the couch in his living room.
“Stupid Masaki! I hate him!” sounds a bit out of character but he can’t help it. The frustration has hit him real hard and he hates it. When he heard his doorbell rings, he ignores it. After a few ring later, it stops so he sighed in relief. However, he was caught off guard when a pair of arms hugged him from behind, he almost yelp in surprise.
“Sho-chan gomen ne. I didn’t know that you planned a celebration for me.” Aiba was there, apologizing to him in his sweet voice that he usually gave up to but this time he just want to sulk more. So he stays quiet. Aiba keeps persuading him for a good ten minutes when the younger starts feeling mad too. Aiba voice eventually changed from sweet to a bit annoyed.
“What the hell Sho? Which part of this is my fault? I was working my ass up and was dead tired so I sleep at the green room. ALONE! Not that I cheat on you or something!” Aiba finally burst too.
“You supposed to come home after your work is finished! Why the hell you didn’t? I was waiting the whole night!”
“I already told you that I was tired. And how on earth would I know that you have planned to celebrate my birthday?! You should have said something.”
“If I tell you, it won’t be a surprise anymore!”
“Then do me a favour of not yelling at me to not knowing anything! You don’t even wish me this year!”
“Because I want to say it in person!”
“So it is my fault now?”
“No. Yes. Urghh I don’t know!” Sakurai sat in frustration. Aiba did the same. After a few minutes, he finally calm and start talking again.
“I’m sorry Masaki. I shouldn’t get mad at you. It is just I was disappointed that this plan failed. I wanted you to be happy.” He said while reaching for the other’s hand. Aiba looks up to face him.
“I’m sorry too. I was really tired last night. And a bit sad that you did not wish me.” His voice return to the sweet tone he was using earlier. “Can we celebrate my birthday now?” he asked with his big puppy eyes. Sakurai chuckles at the view. How can anybody refuse that eyes?
“Only if you kiss me first.”
“Gladly.” Aiba sealed their lips together. This is the best birthday, well, belated birthday, ever!
