Summary : it is the time of the year again.
“There is no longer Christmas after I met Aiba-san.” The famous words of Ninomiya Kazunari from Arashi regarding the holiday. He is not a man of celebration after all. But meeting Aiba has gave him a day worth celebrating, the other’s birthday.
“Aibashi, what do you want for your birthday this year?” he asked his friend, almost half-hearted to the public. Aiba looks up also almost half-heartedly and pause a bit before answering:
“This year, I leave it to you to decide.”
Nino frowned. Every year, Aiba would tell him what he wants. Not very different from his TV image, Nino is not very generous in spending money as he experienced first handed how hard it is to survive with poverty. But safe for his best friend, he won’t mind spending even all that he earned the whole year. Call him sappy for all he cares but he actually very sensitive toward Aiba and he wants Aiba to love everything he gave him. That is why he decided to ask Aiba what he needs or wants instead. But every year, Aiba would just request simple things like a dinner treat or cheap clothes and shoes (well, they are branded of course but still considered cheap with their amount salary).
Aiba’s request this year keeps him awake for nights, thinking what would be the best present. At first he thought of consulting with other members but then he decided to do this himself. After a week of thinking, he finally decided. He is somehow glad he asked Aiba what he wants a month early so he have time to prepare it.
On the 24th:
Arashi has just finished their live performance at Music Station and now is spreading in their green room, changed and ready to celebrate Aiba’s birthday. It is an unsaid tradition for Arashi to spend that one day together to celebrate Aiba’s birthday and Christmas if they can (no more work after that). Matsujun drives them to their usual yakiniku place and they start their little celebration, just the five of them.
After they finish eating, the members start giving Aiba their present, starting with the captain, Matsujun, Sho and himself. When he handed his present, he told him;
“Open it when you’re home.” And Aiba complies despite the complaint from the other three.
The gift:
Aiba arrived home quite late. He was very happy, as he always been every year. He said it a lot of time that he dislike his birthdate during his childhood but now, he is honestly glad he was born on Christmas Eve.
Already feeling tired from their work of the day, he went to have a quick shower. As he is ready to sleep, he suddenly remembers Nino’s present for him. He jumps up from bed and grab his bag almost violently. The present which is nicely wrapped in yellow and green is now sitting on his lap. He carefully unwrapped the present and found himself speechless as he saw the present.
Nino’s present for him this year is a self-created photobook named “Aimiya x 20” filled with thousands of their pictures starting from 1996 until their concert last week.
He reached for his phone and typed.
“Thank you. Don’t tell the others, but your present is my favourite this year”
And he got a reply almost immediately.
“Ain’t that every year?”
He chuckles.
“Yeah. But that is because they are my choice.”
“Who cares about the small details?”
Nino and his snarky remarks, he thought. He paused a bit before typing again.
“Ne, wanna come over?”
Again, an immediate reply.
“Already at the door.”
