Today I awoke with a sense of hope. Knowing that a new president has been elected and that he proposes an agenda which will change the direction of this country. America has suffered under the bullying Bush regime. Eight years of Cheney's policies of individual greed and Bush's hunger for power have stripped this country of its dignity and robbed its citizenry. In my opinion, both men along with Karl Rove and all the other minds that stole the highest office should be tried for treason, then handed over to the world court and tried for crimes against humanity.
I believe Obama will restore democratic principles to this country, that he will lead America towards a future where all her citizens will have the opportunity to thrive, and that the United States of America will be honored and respected among all nations.
I am still hopeful the Proposition 8 will fail as it is still too close to call. It is this close margin that tells me the debate about gay marriage is far from over. If the measure passes, the proponents of the California constitutional amendment are already planning on filing a lawsuit to annul all the same-sex marriages that have been performed since the court ruling that overturned the restrictions. The advertising blitz the Yes on 8 supporters steamrolled the No on 8 offerings. Everywhere I looked or listened, the message of fear and deception was much louder than the message of equality. Mainstream television, radio and even the inbox page of my Yahoo email carried the Yes on 8 advertisements. The only No on 8 ads that I saw were on Bravo during Project Runway and America's Top Design. Given the demographics that watch these shows, it seems that they were preaching to the choir. I have my fingers and toes crossed.
This is my last week in Palm Springs, unless the kitchen isn't finished by the extended deadline of Friday. From the look of things, I doubt they will make it. My big lessons are the following:
- It is impossible to find a good general contractor for small projects in the Coachella Valley
- when an agreement is signed with the contractor, deadline dates need to be defined
- the contract should define penalties in the event the deadlines are not be met.
- I need to handle these small projects the same way I manage a large project
Next week I am supposed to report back to Frank and start work again on the beach house, although part of me wants to find a job somewhere else. (Dave Cobb, is your company still hiring? LOL)
Who knows what the future holds. I do know this: The universe always provides.
