CHARACTER NAME: Touya Kinomoto
SERIES: Cardcaptor Sakura
RESERVED: Yes
WISHLIST: No
PERSONALITY: Touya immediately comes off as being one of the ‘cool kids’ - smart, calm, with an air of easy-going self-confidence. He’s not much of a talker, which in canon increases his popularity - his tendancy to say little earns him something of a reputation as ‘mysterious’ and distant. It’s not really a silence born out of dislike or a desire for isolation, though - he’s just simply the type to not talk idly, saying only what he thinks is really important. His popularity is also genuinely, rightfully earned. While he may not say a great deal, he’s a genuinely kind person, and treats everyone with respect - even those he knows to not be human, like the Mirror card, the ghosts he interacted with growing up, or his best friend, Yukito.
He’s also a fiercely loyal, protective person, as well as a somewhat self-sacrificing one - he doesn’t hesitate to put himself in danger to try and help Mirror, or to give up his powers to allow Yue to live. Sakura gets the most of his over-protective attention, being his younger sister - this is likely part of the reason he always seems to show up when Sakura is in need of help, and he makes Yue promise that in exchange for his power, the moon guardian will watch out for his sister. It’s also the reason for his rather obvious dislike of Syaoran Li, the boy to steal his little sister’s heart.
While he doesn’t really get angry - even at Syaoran - he isn’t always outwardly full of sweetness and light. Those close to him get his own brand of affectionate teasing - his sister, chiefly, and to a lesser extent, Yukito. The latter takes it with the same unruffled cheerful calm he takes everything, and while Sakura complains when he calls her ‘monster’, even she openly admits that she knows he cares about her.
TIMELINE: End of volume 12 of the manga
BACKGROUND: Touya is the oldest of the two children of Nadeshiko and Fujitaka Kinomoto, living in the small town of Tomoeda, Japan. Even from a young age, he possessed the ability to see ghosts, and frightened his sister Sakura, seven years his junior, by telling her about them. Their mother died of illness when he was ten, leaving Sakura in his and Fujitaka’s care. Despite his teasing of his sister, the bonds between the family were close.
When he was in middle school, he met a woman named Kaho Mizuki at the Tsukimine Shrine, in Tomoeda. They talked briefly, getting along well - and the next day, Touya discovered that she was a new student-teacher at his high school. Despite the taboos against it, they engaged in a romantic relationship of some degree for several months - something with Touya felt comfortable enough to tell his father about. Kaho ended their relationship abruptly, letting him know two days in advance that she was leaving to study abroad - something she had known for some time, but had not shared because of the damper it would put on their relationship. She tells him the next time they meet again, Touya will have already met the person he’s meant to be with.
This person wanders into his life a year or two later in the form of Yukito Tsukishirou, a transfer student to Tomoeda in his first year of high school, who lives with his frequently-absent grandparents. The two are in the same class at school, and quickly become fast friends, Yukito’s talkative, outgoing nature a complement to Touya’s more subdued one. They walk to school together, do homework together, and Yukito is (much to Sakura’s delight) a frequent dinner guest at the Kinomoto household.
Life gets shaken up a little when Sakura breaks the seal on a book of very old, very powerful magic cards - known as the Clow Cards, after their creator - and is set by their Guardian to track them down. Syaoran Li, a relative of Clow Read, who created the deck originally, comes to Tomoeda to get the cards himself for his family. Touya takes an instant dislike to the boy, sensing his affections for Sakura. Touya takes little part in Sakura’s battles for the cards - he only really interacts with one, the Mirror card, who at the time he believes to be a ghost. He’s aware of what’s going on, though, and that the cute little stuffed animal Sakura has seemingly acquired is not actually a stuffed animal at all. He keeps this information to himself, though, trusting in his sister to be able to make her own way, and tell him in time.
After Sakura seals all the cards, a new fact comes to light - Yukito is not human at all, but rather, the alternate form of the second guardian of the cards, Yue. Yukito doesn’t realize this - he has no memory of time spent as Yue - but to Touya’s magical senses, it’s plenty clear. Unfortunately, Sakura, despite being on the route to becoming the most powerful mage of all time, doesn’t quite have the power to support the guardians and the cards at the same time. Keroberos, the first guardian, is aspected to the sun, which shines with its own light - but Yue is aspected to the moon, which simply reflects the light shone upon it. With Sakura unable to fully support him, Yue, and thus Yukito, begins to fade, threatening to cease existence entirely. Touya recognizes this fairly quickly, though the universe seems to conspire against him telling Yukito - chiefly in the form of Nakuru Akizuki, a new transfer student (and new guardian of Clow’s reincarnation, Erio who wants Touya’s rather considerable power for herself), but also, by accident, Sakura on a handful of occasions.
Yukito’s fatigue becomes bad enough, however, that he collapses one day during gym at school, and Touya finally gets an opening. He tells Yukito that it’s alright, he knows he’s not human - and finally comes face to face with Yue. Touya offers Yue his own power - which includes the ability to see his mother’s ghost - in exchange for two conditions: to protect Sakura now that Touya can’t, and to protect himself, and thus Yukito. Yue agrees, and Touya gives up his power and extra senses to sustain the person who has become most important to him. The event exhausts him, and he spends much of the next few days asleep. During that time, Sakura finally works up the courage to confess her crush on Yukito, only to be turned down - Yukito’s interest is in Touya, instead. Afterwards, Yukito feels like a rift has formed between himself and Sakura - but Touya is quick to reassure him that Sakura is fine, and that everything is back to normal.
After Sakura’s final battle with Eriol, in which she finishes changing the cards, things appear to calm down. The full circumstances around Clow’s death, and Yukito and Yue’s feelings are known. Touya is still worried, however - because he knows what he started to see a long time ago is coming to pass, that Sakura has fallen for Syaoran, and that he’s going to have to let his little sister free. Even then, he joins Yukito in cooking for her as she stays up all night sewing a present right before Syaoran leaves, and then gives Sakura a ride on his motorcycle to the bus stop for the airport. After that, Touya’s fate is unknown - we see Sakura and Syaoran reuniting in the last few pages of the manga as junior high students, two years older, but no mention is made of Touya and Yukito.
ABILITIES: Vanilla human, having lost his magical senses. Has worked seemingly every entry level job at some point in his high school life (lifeguard, cook, waiter, and mechanic are a few of the known ones), and thus has a fairly broad array of basic skills.

EDENSPHERE NAME: Momotarou
BIRTHDAY LOG: Yes please!
DREAM: It looked like an ordinary enough high school classroom - chairs tucked neatly under the desk, clean chalkboard, a vase of fresh flowers on the sill by the window. There was nobody here, though - no sound of footsteps in the hallway, nobody on the field outside. He glanced across the desks, and spotted something out of the ordinary. A pencil case, pink, with a star and little wings on the sides. It looked handmade, and felt... important. Something he should keep safe.
He tucked it into a pocket, and went to slide the door open - revealing yet another out of place oddity. A bouquet of nadeshiko blossoms, with a vine of wisteria twisted around them. He gathered them up in one arm - for a brief moment, the scent was powerful, almost overwhelming. At the same time, though, it was somehow not unpleasant, twining around him like an embrace. And then it was gone again, leaving him alone in the hallway with flowers in his arms.
He started checking the other rooms off the hallway, looking for... something. Other people, other things out of the ordinary, perhaps - he wasn’t quite sure. All of the classrooms were neat and tidy, until he came to the last one. There, perched on the teacher’s desk, was a large peach, perfectly ripe. Propped up against it was a long white pinion feather. He picked the feather up - it was softer than it looked, somehow, and he ran his fingers along the edge of it before tucking it into his breast pocket and picking up the peach instead. He examined it for a minute, and then took a bite. It was delicious - easily the best he’d ever had, and that was plenty enough reason to ignore the juice that was dripping everywhere from it. Another bite, and another, and there was the peach pit. He looked at it, and it seemed to fill his vision until he awoke, abruptly.
JOURNAL SAMPLE: This place is pretty weird.
[Pause. Yeah, okay, that was obvious, but it’s at the top of his mind, right now]
I’m Momotarou. I know the name’s a little silly, but it’ll serve for now. I'm sure it'll be good to meet you all.
ASPIRATIONS: Fluff and friendshipping~ I have two metaplot characters already, so with Touya I’d like to go for some lighter stuff, and give the quieter characters some good CR in the process.
