There are four primary spells that Syaoran uses in the series. As for
the actual appearances of the seals, they all look the same to me. I
assume that either the chant is the important part, assigning an
element to the seal, or that the writing is just too small for me to
read.
To activate the seals, he calls out his spell and presses the paper to
the flat of his sword blade, or he holds them up straight and
concentrates while speaking the spell. He does not perform magic
without a seal in the series; the only person who performs wordless
and tool-less magic is Eriol, who has great magical power.
Raitei shourai - A lightning spell, generally used to call
light or attack by calling lightning down upon an opponent. This is
Syaoran's primary fighting spell.
Kashin shourai - A fire spell, usually used for attack,
although it can also be used for precise measures such as lighting a
candle. Calling this spell sets the seal on fire and then it can be
thrown or used otherwise.
Fuuka shourai - A wind spell, usually used for binding or
rescue; it can slow a fall or also send wind at an opponent.
Suiryuu shourai - A water spell. Can be used for attack or
to produce water, but it is not as controlled as the fire spell.
Syaoran also uses it once to reveal magic, showing Sakura the threads
that he was being controlled by.
The rashinban has its own very lengthy spell which calls on all of the
elements to reveal something. Generally it is used as a magic
detector or a Clow Card detector. You can also use it to find people
who have magic, but if their magic power is too much, then the board
is 'overloaded' and can't produce a direction.
walk on water spell - He uses a seal for this, and only does
it once. The spell grants the user to walk on top of water for a very
short time. He can also extend it to affect others.
Syaoran mentions briefly that he has a spell that he can use to find
people, if he has an item belonging to them, but he doesn't use it in
the series. He's also capable of sharing magic because he gives some
of his power to Sakura for her final battle. Unlike Touya's giving up
of power, this doesn't seem to be a permanent loss to Syaoran.
