10 Words to describe your character: confident, flirtatious, cunning, driven, ambitious, spontaneous, workaholic, daring, calculated, caffeinated
EXTENDED APPLICATION -- PLEASE DO AT LEAST A PARAGRAPH ON EACH OF THESE, UNLESS THEY ARE STATED TO BE OPTIONAL
Personality:
Lenore exudes confidence and snark. Unless she’s working she tends not to take anything seriously and pretty much no topic is sacred. She’s a workaholic because she loves her job but also because she constantly feels the need to prove herself (although she will never admit feeling that way to anyone). She drinks coffee like it’s going out of style, mostly because she loves the taste (never mind the fact that the English do not drink coffee) but also because she has a tendency to stay up late and loves to complain about the morning afters. Lenore is all about advancing herself and having as much fun as possible while doing it.
Strengths: Both magical and personality:
Lenore loves abstract concepts and theoretical magic. Astronomy, Ancient Runes and Arithmancy always made sense to her and she adores them. Anything requiring thought and extrapolating from principles tends to be her strength. Lenore actually has a very strong work ethic, despite all outward appearances (ie. her constant flirting while not working). She comes into the office nearly every day, whether she’s supposed to have it off or not because she can’t get enough and can never wait to make progress on her projects. Once she’s set on something, nothing will stop her trying to achieve it.
Weaknesses: Both magical and personality:
Overly practical courses like Herbology, Lenore simply despised. If there’s no discernable trick to things, no clear rationality behind sorting through them, then she just doesn’t get it. She never could keep a plant alive to save her life and Defense Against the Dark Arts never really clicked (she took it past fifth year anyway but it just isn’t Lenore’s strength).
Personally, some of her strengths tend to work against her. Being a workaholic is a detriment to her personal life, of which Lenore has very little outside of the work place. The few people she’s close to are coworkers and don’t any of them spend a whole lot of time with her outside of work unless it’s for a few drinks or a crazy night out. She can be very single minded when in the middle of a project and tends to neglect smaller problems, keeping her nose to the grindstone until she cracks the big puzzle when she could easily take care of the side issues if she only stepped away for a few moments. Although she carries herself as though she’s never unsure of her actions, sometimes it’s more of a defense mechanism than anything else. Coming from the less than reputable background that she has, Lenore is sometimes overwhelmed by the feeling that people are right and she isn’t good enough. Her reaction is to such feelings is to be extra snarky and to turn cold, and sometimes to do things more spontaneously than is normal even for her. Lenore’s romantic relationships are, as a rule, casual and short lived. She has nothing against a one night stand, friends with benefits, or purely physical relationships.
Fears:
She would never say that real relationships scare her but they do. When things feel at all serious she becomes uncomfortable and breaks it off quickly. Either because of her mother’s problems with men or simply because she, herself is too unwilling consider changing (or bending) to suit someone else’s desires, Lenore prefers to avoid the situation all together and has never been involved with someone she considered a long term commitment.
Lenore’s other main fear would be failure. Although generally quite self assured, she is occasionally terrified that the elitists are right and she is a worthless Mudblood who’s accomplishments will be stripped away suddenly and without warning.
History:
Lenore is the only child of Madeline Francine Grey, a squib who was disowned from her family for being magically ungifted. Her father was a Muggle whom Madeline had been seeing for a number of years; they never married, not even after Lenore was born, and her father left when she was quite young, soon after it became apparent that his child was something other than normal. Her mother steadfastly ignored signs that Lenore was magically inclined right up until her letter for Hogwarts arrived at which point there was no denying it anymore. Though Madeline cared for her daughter, she couldn’t help but be jealous of the fact that Lenore had that which had cost her so much and they were close without being overly friendly. Her mother never did marry, though Lenore witnessed her go through a string of failed relationships as she was growing up.
At Hogwarts, Lenore was sorted into Slytherin, which in no way made her schooling easier but was a rather perfect fit. Growing up poor and in the environment that she did, Lenore was filled with an ambition to be better than what she came from. Being surrounded by housemates of “superior blood” only fueled her need to prove herself and Lenore worked tirelessly to achieve good scores and to silence those that said she couldn’t accomplish anything because of who she was. Hogwarts increased the distance between her mother and herself and Lenore spent most of her hols at school or staying with friends whenever possible.
After graduation, Lenore immediately started an apprenticeship in a minor office of the Ministry. From there she quickly worked her way up until finally she managed to get herself appointed as an Unspeakable in the Department of Mysteries. Lenore loves her job and the freedom it affords her; the secrecy surrounding her department means most of the Ministry has no jurisdiction over her and she’s given fairly free rein within the purview of her research since no one outside of it would understand the half of what goes on down there anyway.
Physical Description: At the least, provide base details of build, height, eye/hair colour, and complexion.
Lenore is, quite frankly, gorgeous and tends to use it as the asset that it is (blame her PB). She’s rather tall, 5’10”, with long dark hair and brown eyes.
Significant Relationships:
Family: Optional: Because her father took off when she was young, Lenore’s only family is her mother and for various reasons, their relationship is strained and distant at best, currently. Lenore more than willingly accepted her magical abilities and quickly left behind the Muggle life that had treated her mother so poorly, which essentially left Madeline by herself once again. They still talk on occasion, though it’s infrequent, and Lenore doesn’t often visit because though she does care for her mother they live in very different worlds and Lenore does not wish to go back.
Friends: Optional: Lenore does not use the term friend lightly, and the list of people she’s friendly with is short and seemingly random, including Arthur MacAlaister, Ed Agate, and Elijah Applesmith. Whether or not any of them is significant probably depends on Lenore’s current mood, how bored she is, and how annoying she’s being toward them (and whether it’s enough for them to tell her to bugger off).
Other: Optional: Lenore is pretty much the anti-significant other. Labeling any relationship as serious is a sure way to send her flirting in another direction because she simply doesn’t feel comfortable with anything settled.
Special Considerations: Such as broom ownership, being an animagus, famous in some form, or a metamorphmagus. All are subject to mod approval.
Nope, none.

Why were they in that house? (Or why would they have been in that house?): As stated previously, Lenore was imbued at a young age with the desire to prove herself and be better; better than what others expected, better than what her father thought of her, better than her mother wanted her to be. Lenore wants to be on top and in control. Whatever she sets herself to she will accomplish, if it takes everything she has. Although Slytherin is often thought of as the pureblood/evil house, its base qualifier is ambition and Lenore has it in droves.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE -- PLEASE ENSURE THAT THIS IS IN THIRD PERSON NARRATIVE POINT OF VIEW
“Mum? You alright?”
Lenore’s mother often fell into moods but they were generally to blame on men or work or Lenore herself. As far as Lenore was aware, none of those factors were to blame now. Her mum had been fine just a moment ago but now she was standing stock still holding an envelope with sparkled green lettering.
“Did Da write you?” she ventured. Lenore found that highly unlikely but it would, at least, explain her mother’s look of numb disbelief.
There was still no response and she tried again, “Mum?”
Her mother finally wrenched her eyes from the envelope to fix Lenore a look. It was the same expression she’d given the paper, only perhaps sadder or bitterer, Lenore wasn’t quite sure which. “You got your letter.” Her mum’s voice was brittle, which didn’t make sense at all because it was just a bit of paper. She handed the envelope to Lenore quickly as she walked away.
“My letter?”
Her mum didn’t answer, had, in fact, left the room entirely. Turning the envelope over curiously in her hands, Lenore saw her own name and address written in that strange ink and an unfamiliar crest in the corner where a return address should be. She looked up again, but the only sight that greeted her was the empty living room. Down the hall, behind her mother’s now closed bedroom door, Lenore heard the sound of halting tears. Confused but intrigued, Lenore tore the envelope open and read,
Lenore Grey,
It is my pleasure to inform you that you’ve been admitted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry…
