Wand: Any time a student has a non canon wand we ask them to describe briefly why the wand they do have chose them.
Strengths It's written that she loves 'sentient' things but sentient is defined as a type of consciousness. Since not all plants are conscious we'd recommend changing the word to living or organisms. This would probably clear up any confusion around the sentence.

I figure there are all sorts of things that could be a wand core, most anything from a magical creature seems to be used in canon. Just because only ever told a handful of wands doesn't mean you can't have something other than those. Pretty much I just didn't want to pick the same old thing and somehow a Kelpie hair sounded interesting enough for Tia. I can pick a more standard answer like unicorn hair but that would be too girly, and dragon heart string sounds too masculine. I think Lenore already has a phoenix feather so...yeah, mostly I was going for variety. Kelpies are kind of creepy creatures to nab hair from but they're a cool UK mythical creature, which Tia finds kind of awesome. But like I said, if you want, I'll change it and give her phoenix feather.
Good point on the sentient. I was using that too broadly I suppose. I'll change it to living then.

it is my understanding that the wand core reflects the person's characteristics unless the wand is chosen for them instead of the known Olivander's method.
kelpie hair is a good general spells and this is fine except it seems she has no specific interest in spells?
"If you ask a master wand maker like Ollivander or Gregorovitch, they'll probably tell you the most important ingredient that determines a wand's characteristics is its magical core. Although almost any magical creature can be used, the most commonly used in Britain are dragon hearstring, which results in a wand that is good for hexes, unicorn tail hair, which make good wands for the pure of heart, and phoenix feather, resulting in wands more powerful than ones made from any other core

I will agree that Tia's not huge on spells. I had picked the wand before I'd gotten into her too deeply so I see that point, though I also went with the Kelpie from that list because it wasn't specialized to anything. She's not horrible at spell work, she's just not particularly gifted at anything. From that angle I think a core that's good for spells in general works. She is a witch, just not a spectacular one.
I don't know that the creature itself has to represent the person, but I'll concede the point. Kelpies are generally dark creatures so I can see where it's an odd choice. I'll let it go. Even though Tia's intrigued that they might warn her about impending storms.
Other comms you might want to join are np_chatter and np_plotting. Here you can chat about NP and create and play out backstories/futurestories with other players. It's also suggested that you comment to the Plot Availability post if you want your character or their relatives to be available for mentions in articles or plot lines.

Though you're by no means required to do so, if you're interested you can add parents/NPCs to several lists including: the Character Age Listing (PCs are added automatically), Active/NPC Job Listing, Quidditch Rosters for past years or Pro Teams, and of course, you can sign relatives up to be Death Eaters or Order Members.
