There is also a time difference here. She's currently a second year, she's 12, she doesn't care all that much. If there were some knid of testing for second years then no, right now, she wouldn't get an O. But By the time she's a fifth year I expect her to have grown up quite a bit and probably give more of a shit.
Also, I think I explained fairly well that she cares about doing well in Transfiguration. It's the only class that she sees enough potential in to give it extra effort. I am not giving her an O just because she's gifted in the subject, I'm giving her an O because she recognizes that she's got the ability to do it, and as such, wants to use that ability to its full potential, so she works for it.
And honestly, come on, the rest of her grades are pretty dreadful anyway. She's going to fail defense against the dark arts and barely pass some other very important classes, which is pretty much going to ruin any future plans she has for herself anyway... it's not like I'm asking for her to pass all of her classes with flying colors here. I'm just giving her an O in transfiguration because she deserves it, and I don't think I should have to change that.
