Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonderek_blyFebruary 6 2008, 03:47:02 UTC
Wow, Derek...did not feel well this morning. He'd known he was getting a cold or something yesterday but the usual trip in to snag a quick cure from Russiani while she wasn't around hadn't seemed to help. No, no, he was definitely feeling worse today. It had taken a good hour for Derek to convince himself to get out of bed but he had class today. He couldn't just lay around. Maybe if he made himself move some he'd start feeling better. Yeah. Sure.
Which was why Derek was now huddled in one of the overstuffed chairs in the common room trying to sink farther into his sweater.

Rebecca was in an unusually tired state that day and had taken a short nap directly after lunch. As she was now walking down from her dorm, still feeling a big drowsy, she caught sight of Derek and skipped on over.
"Hey, what's going on?" She smiled, though the smile faded once she noticed how he looked. Her nose scrunched up a bit as she took a seat next to him in another empty chair, "You're not looking so hot, Bly... you alright?"
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonderek_blyFebruary 6 2008, 04:06:08 UTC
"Hmm?" Someone was saying his name. "Oh, hey, Becca." Okay really Bly, you have to get over this. Get better. There's Defense to go to in a few hours. It was simply not on that he was feeling this under the weather. Who got fevers this time of year? Okay, maybe that was the wrong question to ask, cold weather and all. But still, that potion he'd nipped from Russiani should have taken care of whatever this was. It was supremely unfair that he was starting to have to wonder if he should go to class at all.
"Not really. I'm hoping it'll clear up though." Optimism. That was the key! "You might not want to sit too close though."
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonsweetandhoneyFebruary 6 2008, 04:13:45 UTC
Frowning, she shrugged, "I don't care. If you're sick then I want to help you," Yeah, really... she was kind of stupid for not caring whether she got something that was contagious but she hated seeing her friends ill. Especially when away from home. She knew what it was like and she hated getting sick when she was at school.
"Have you gone to the hospital wing at all?" It was the initial question to ask, even if she knew he would probably have gone to Russiani already.
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonderek_blyFebruary 6 2008, 04:41:09 UTC
"Um-" Derek's delay was party because he had to stop and think about it, or at least how to get the words out, and partly to get his brain working enough to remember. He frowned. "Sort of. I mean, yesterday. I went in and got something for a cold but it clearly isn't working." Which, you know, could be a reason to actually see the nurse rather than try to avoid her and just grab something himself but a) he was a teenage boy and b) there had been a couple of pretty sick seeming people in there already. Taking up Russiani's time would be silly for something as minor as this was, right? Right.
"It'll clear up," he insisted. "I just need to sit here for awhile. Tell it to go away." Positive thinking when sick always helped, or so his mum had tried to tell him. Probably had something to do with why Derek was working to ignore the dull aches in his limbs and this blasted chill. "How are you anyway?"
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonsweetandhoneyFebruary 6 2008, 04:48:57 UTC
She rolled her eyes, "You can't treat it so lightly. Maybe it is just your average, every day, common cold, but what if its more than that??" Becca wasn't fully aware of this, but she could get rather motherly when her friends were sick. Her concern was valid, though, wasn't it?
Her eyes rolled once more, this time more dramatically when he asked about her, "It's not me we're to be worried about. Why don't you go up to your bed and sleep? I can bring you soup or something for dinner. If you are sick, you probably shouldn't be down in the common room anyway, unless you want to get everyone down her sick as well." She spoke logic, he couldn't argue with any of that.
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonderek_blyFebruary 6 2008, 05:02:26 UTC
Becca did have a point there and Derek frowned. "Yeah, but if I go up there then it's giving up," he complained (as only the sick can do). "I'm not going to get to class if I lay down. I'll just sleep the whole day." Okay, so that didn't sound like such a bad idea about now but come on. It was DADA.
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonsweetandhoneyFebruary 6 2008, 05:07:13 UTC
"Who cares??" She was completely dumbfounded by why he would even want to go to class, "Frankly I would take the excuse while you can. I almost wish I was sick and didn't have to go..." Though that was pretty much a lie, since she loved attending classes. Still... it would be nice to go up to her room and sleep the rest of the day away as well.
"You're silly, are you always like this when you're not feeling well? Feeling like you have to put on a good show and suffer through it? You're supposed to soak it up when you're sick. Get people to take notes for you and do your homework or something, have people bring you food and tend to you in bed. That's the sweet life, my friend." She smirked, twirling a strand of hair around her finger idly as she scrutinized him.
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonderek_blyFebruary 6 2008, 05:20:00 UTC
Derek mumbled a sound. "No, you really don't want this one," he gave Becca a serious look. "Missing class is fine and well if you've got a reason but sick is...not a good reason. It's just miserable." A person should at least be feeling well enough to enjoy being out of class if they were going to be.
"Are you volunteering then?" Derek latched onto the levity and managed a smile. "The list of people to take care of me is looking kind of short," he observed. "But hey! Now you're here. Excellent. I'll just crash then, shall I?" Becca really shouldn't put herself out too seriously or Derek would be obliged to take advantage of it (like a good friend). Of course, someone making the trip to the Great Hall and class for him sounded pretty brill about now.
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonsweetandhoneyFebruary 6 2008, 05:39:17 UTC
She laughed, nodding her head before shrugging, "Unfortunately I think I'm obligated to take care of you no matter whether I want to or not. Something having to do with us being friends while in the womb or some such nonsense," Becca waved her hand in the air as if it wasn't a big deal. The food bit, she'd already volunteered for. And her natural habit of taking notes ensured the fact that he wouldn't miss a beat in the school work. So all systems were go if he did in fact decide to stay in bed.
"You really should," She encouraged further, giving him a sympathetic smile.
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonderek_blyFebruary 6 2008, 05:58:35 UTC
Well there was that. Derek smiled, feeling a little better to hear it. It was always miserable being sick away from home. Even if nearly seventeen would seem to be pushing the wanting your mum bit, there was a certain something about being taking care of you when you were sick that made it a lot easier; and what else were mums for but making you feel better? It was harder to expect people you weren't related to to put up with the germs and the whining.
Derek made another not-quite-verbal noise, this one unenthusiastic. "Just a little while longer. I've hardly gotten up. Didn't move until...an hour ago," he figured. "It might get better." Truth be told he hadn't dragged himself down for food yet either. Maybe he should give that a go before calling the day a loss.
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonsweetandhoneyFebruary 6 2008, 06:35:07 UTC
Becca let out an annoyed sort of sigh, stopping herself from rolling her eyes again. Derek tended to bring this side out of her, she mused. What a wanker. "You are so stubborn, Bly. I swear, sometimes I just want to..." She trailed off, not even knowing how she wanted to end that statement. Though she had a lightly amused smile on her face, because even she couldn't be mad at him while he looked so pathetic. Poor guy.
She leaned back into her chair, rubbing her eyes with her palm and then letting out a yawn, "Hell, maybe I'll crash with you. Aww, we should cuddle!" The joke probably wouldn't be fully appreciated in his state, but she figured she was laughing enough for the both of them.
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonderek_blyFebruary 7 2008, 03:46:32 UTC
Derek didn't really have the energy to get a come back in there. The best he could do was roll his head along the couch back to look at her with a very good approximation of sickly 'what do you want from me?' puppy eyes. He was allowed to be stubborn when he felt like death. And look, the eyes worked! Ish. Derek wasn't sure what the pathetic look was supposed to do for him but an offer of cuddling wasn't exactly it
( ... )
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonsweetandhoneyFebruary 8 2008, 00:46:32 UTC
"Well, anyway," She looked at him with concern, shrugging her shoulders because she didn't really know what else to tell him. He looked like he might go up to his bed and sleep, but who was to say for sure?
Plus, she saw where he was headed with that statement. Hannah. And frankly, she didn't want to talk about it right now. Though she hoped that her outburst the other day wouldn't stop him from talking to her about it entirely...
"I'm not going to make you go up there. Stay here if you like. I love ya kid, but seeing the way you look... I'm not so sure whether I'm willing to take the risk of getting that sickness."
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonderek_blyFebruary 8 2008, 02:43:22 UTC
No, Derek wasn't going to stop talking to Becca. Even if they disagreed, talking was far better than keeping stuff in anymore. For the moment though, letting the argument cool seemed prudent. Besides, he really didn't care about the Hannah issue just now. It wasn't immediately important.
"I just feel like I should move around or something. Try to get through it before giving up, you know?" Maybe he was too stubborn. Returning to bed certainly sounded like the better option. He'd expected to be better by now though, not worse. This sucked.
"You just came back from lunch didn't you?" Derek ventured. That would make sense given the time. Maybe he'd try to get some food on his own and then make the call about what to do.
Re: Monday, November 20th - Early afternoonbeautyfrompainFebruary 8 2008, 19:09:05 UTC
See? She knew he wasn't going to take her advice. So when he was the one sleeping in the hospital wing, she'd be more than happy to say that she told him so... granted, she didn't think he'd actually have to be in the hospital wing -- because surely, he just had a cold or something else that was easily cured.
"I ate a quick lunch and took a small nap," She shrugged, "But yeah... I mean, go try to get some food or something," Becca bit her lip, watching him and wondering how the hell he was going to go out like that.
She may have been concerned, but the fact remained that she was not his mother and therefore she was not going to watch him like a hawk. Derek was a big boy, so he'd do what he pleased. "Just be careful, okay?" She got up from her seat, remembering she had some last minute changes to do on her homework. "I don't want to find you passed out in the halls."
