Monday, November 13th - Early Afternoon

Derek was staring down the Common Room. Oddly, there was a speedy Quaffle. Ruth Ann sighed at the sight of a bat swatting. "Bollocks!". Really, how could that happen in the dorm? Speedily. This school was clearly full of Snitches. "You look really violent beating like that," Cassie pouted.

Maddox was heading past the Common Room when he saw Derek. After hearing that Jamie had gotten detention from Professor Crone earlier, Maddox felt awful. He knew that the Quidditch match was this weekend.

So, he walked over to Derek, who appeared to be... daydreaming or sleeping or something. "Hey Derek," he greeted as he sat down.

"What?" Apparently Derek had drifted off, which was a little ridiculous since it was Monday evening. Who fell asleep at the beginning of the week? Damn Quidditch stresses. He looked around with the confused expression of one woken from a nap, a little embarrassed that he was sleeping in the Common Room.

"Oh. Hey Mads." Well, this could actually be good once his brain cleared. Derek had kind of been wanting to see if Maddox had any tips for the first game or whatever.

"How's Quidditch?" Maddox asked, genuinely interested. Which, yes. He should be interested, but Maddox knew that he should really apologize to Derek for what had happened in class today.

"Oh, I need to apologize to you, for... an incident that happened in class today which may have ended with Jamie getting a detention... We were fighting, and I shouldn't have reacted the way I did. Everyone knows what a jackass Jamie is, you really just have to ignore him," Maddox realized he was rambling now, which he stopped. Besides, Derek was pretty much all about fighting too, wasn't he? Yeah, he definitely was.

EXCELLENT. Mads was willing to talk Quidditch then? Score. He knew the bloke would understand and-

Before Derek could launch into Quidditch insanity Mads was telling him about something else though. Derek heard the words 'fighting' 'Jamie' and 'detention' and his brain went into lock down freak out mode. Remain calm. Don't panic. Oh, sodding hell, what had happened now?

"Wait, fighting what? Detention? When?" These were IMPORTANT details.

Honestly Derek hadn't noticed Jamie sitting over there yet. Just having woken up did that to a person. His attention locked onto Kendrick now though. "Jamie." There he was. "Tell me you do not have detention this weekend."

Maddox stopped when he heard Jamie talking. Great! Now the bloke could apologize himself! Anyways, he was still planning to talk Quidditch with Derek, but now Derek was talking to Jamie. So, Maddox sat back and chillaxed.

"You might?" Derek stopped and gave Jamie a disbelieving look. "Do you or don't you? On Saturday?" Did people just live to torture him or what? This was not a joking matter.

Wait. Jamie had to ask why Derek cared? "The GAME!" Merlin on a bloody stick! "We have a game this weekend! Or do you not remember?"

Why had this never happened when Mads was Captaining? It wasn't like Derek hadn't been gearing them up for this for the last two weeks.

Merlin on a bloody stick? Hahaha, had this situation not been extremely dire, Maddox would have laughed.

Oh wow, Jamie didn't even know they had a game? MADDOX HAD THE SCHEDULE TAPED TO THE WALL IN THEIR DORM ROOM. What a fool!

Either way, he said nothing and simply observed the amazing Captaining of Derek.

This was not happening. Derek was getting worried about Quidditch, sure, but he hadn't been ready panic yet. This was NOT ON. "TALK TO HIM about it," he ordered seriously. This was not an option. What was Jamie even doing just sitting there now? Why wasn't he out fixing things?

As for who's fault it was, Derek didn't care. There was a GAME to worry about.

Maddox rolled his eyes. That was just about enough of Jamie's whining and insisting that it wasn't his fault when it so obviously was. "Sure because talking like a jackass about how girls won't put out is just fine. And hey, calling people mudbloods and threatening them is just GREAT."

But bitching about Jamie could wait. Instead Maddox sighed. "Maybe apologize for disrupting his class? Try not being a huge twat, I'd say."

Derek pressed a stressed hand to the side of his head. This had to work out. It just did. He didn't expect Jamie to like it, he didn't have to like anything but he did have to fix this. The other bloke couldn't just screw over the team like this. Even if Derek was plenty enough awesome for both Beating positions. Losing one of the only other players that knew what they were doing was simply NOT OKAY. Occasional frequent jerk though he was, Derek needed JFK on the team.

Stepping into the middle of this argument wasn't something Derek was interested in. He stayed out of it as his mind went over back-up plans in case Jamie talking to Crone didn't work.
