Sunday, September 3rd, afternoon. candleschildren September 1 2007, 19:53:45 UTC
After lunch, Gillichu had returned to his dorm to fetch Philomena and his guitar. The kitten was not terribly pleased to be awakened from her nap, though she was appeased somewhat by Gillichu's peace offering of several pieces of chicken, eating them without seeming to mind the mustard that he'd failed to completely clean off. The guitar was another matter, and Gillichu still wasn't entirely sure whether he was wasting his time with the instrument or not. Geoffrey had promised to help him with it over the summer, but then the man hadn't been around much of at all. Gillichu had been hoping to finally have the promised lessons now that the term had started, since Geoffrey would have to be around more, and besides, it wasn't as if his uncle had classes any to teach any day other than Friday. Unfortunately, Geoffrey was nowhere to be found at the moment, which was annoying ( ... )

Gillichu immediately jumped back at the girl's approach. If he wasn't mistaken, this girl was... the one who'd been snogging Katzenkaiser last year! Glaring, he raised his guitar, using it as a shield against the girl. "Don't think I don't know who you are!" he warned. "If you come any closer or try to snog me or something, you'll be sorry!!"

Philomena, oblivious to the paranoia of her boy, wandered over and rubbed against the girl's leg, purring. Traitor.

Anya jumped back as well, startled by the way he greeted her. Ouch, that kind of hurt. Anya wasn't so used to people rejecting her like that -- at least not for silly things like snogging! Which, by the way, had not been happening! At least when he stumbled upon them...

She sighed with a frown, kneeling down as the kitten came over; at least Philomena seemed to approve of her, that made her feel a little better with herself. Anya stroked the soft fur, chewing on her lip as she decided what to say to the boy next.

"Frankly, I wouldn't dream of snogging you, so you have no worries there. I was just trying to be friendly..."

"Well, good, just make sure you keep it that way," Gillichu said as he glared at Philomena. Didn't the kitten understand she was consorting with the enemy?! A cootie infested enemy??

"Why would I want to be friendly with you?" he sneered, taking a couple steps back before glancing at the kitten again. Did he dare abandon her? Who knew what would happen if he did - after all, he'd let Edmund out of his sight for a minute last year and then the poor duck frog had ended up severely traumatized after being held hostage by a zombie in the Slytherin dungeons.

Okay. Now he was just making her upset. How rude! She hadn't done anything to him, so why was he so opposed to her? The only thing he had seen was her and Jaegar hugging... of course, then the older boy went on to encourage the idea that they had been snogging, so that hadn't helped matters. But really! So what if they had? It was no business of Gillichu's, and he certainly shouldn't be holding it against her!

Unable to read his thoughts about abandoning the animal, Anya picked up the kitten, giggling softly as it licked her finger tips. Why couldn't the owner be as likable?

"Why not be friendly with me? I haven't done anything to you. I haven't done anything period!"

Alas! Philomena had allowed herself to be firmly captured by the creature! No good could come of this, and Gillichu couldn't, for once, fall back on his trusty frog spawn as it would hit the cat as well. Not to mention the fact that his jar of spawn was back in his dorm, as he'd not wanted to risk getting any on his guitar.

"Because. You're a girl. And you snog people," Gillichu replied, as if these should be obvious reasons. "And do... soppy girly things. Now you better let Philomena go, or- or I'll do something!"

Just to be perverse, the kitten chose that moment to begin purring. Loudly.

The creature? The creature?! Is that what he thought of her? If Anya was a mind reader, she would have been offended and quite hurt at being called such a thing. Possibly punched him or something, even though that wasn't what she wanted to be doing at the moment. All she had wanted to do was strike up a friendly conversation with him. See how his summer was. If he liked this new year. You know, things that normal people did ( ... )

"Why should I respect you? Like you said, I don't know you. And I don't want to know you, so there's no reason I need to respect you," Gillichu shot back, rolling his eyes. "And I've bet you've snogged someone. It's like a disease - you can't help it, none of the upper years can." Never mind that she was only a year older than him - he didn't actually know it, and besides, she was a girl. Girls got weird and... hormonal when they got older. It was a scientific fact.

"You mean you don't respect anyone you don't know?" Anya quirked her brow, puzzled by his statement. Had he not been taught manners back at home? Because where she grew up, she was raised to treat others with kindness and respect -- unless they proved that they didn't deserve it, but even then she was taught to play nice. So it completely boggled her mind how he was choosing to speak to her this way.

Or maybe it was just a boy thing. They were so hard to understand!

Sighing, she voiced the other issue, "I'm only a year older than you, Gillichu. We're more similar than you know. Why can't you at least give me a chance? If I'm as horrible as you say or think, then you'll find out soon enough, right?" She realized it could sound as if she was pleading. It wasn't like she was begging for his friendship, but Anya wanted to prove him wrong!

Gillichu, having basically spent ages three through eleven and a half running wild in the forest around his home (excepting brief period during which he'd attended the Muggle primary school in the village), pretty much had not been taught manners back at home. Well. Unless one counted Victoria's occasional attempts to civilize him, of course. Not that this girl knew any of this.

"Why should I respect someone who hasn't earned my respect?" Gillichu asked, rolling his eyes. "And just because we're close in age doesn't mean we're all that similar." This girl didn't honestly think he'd be friends with her, did she? If she did, she was absolutely nutters!

Really, the only reason he was still there was because he was waiting for Philomena.

Anya was at a loss for words now and had no idea how to respond. He was serous...!? Wow. Well, she may not be making a new friend today but at least she learned something new: Gillichu Chandler was not a very nice boy. He had serious issues if he was going to be mean to someone who was just trying to be cordial.

"So I guess this means you're not going to help me find a dog now, huh?" She tried to change tactics, remembering that he had once said he'd help her find a pet. Sure that had been almost a year ago, and that was in her journal no less, but maybe he'd still be interested. With her brothers out of the house, maybe her parents would finally let her have one!

Anya raised up the kitten in her arms, looking it square in the face and smiled before nuzzling their noses together softly, "Or a cat... although I think I'd prefer a puppy."

....oh, well. Now that was different. Though he was loath to hand over an innocent animal to a quite probably Evil girl, there were, well. Standards and things and all that. Namely, that Gillichu was always trying to persuade people of the Importance of Animals. And it was easier to do that if the person had a pet. "Haven't got any dogs or cats I wanna to get rid of right now. Are you sure you don't want a rabbit? Or a jarvey? Or maybe a snake or a lizard or a mouse or a hamster or something? Have a lot of those."

She had to smile to herself, just a little, because at least this change of subject got him talking a bit more -- in a way that wasn't as rude as his earlier tone. Although her nose wrinkled slightly at his suggestion she get one of the other animals, "Nah. That's okay... I guess I'll look for someone else to find me a dog."

"Oh. Well. Can I have my cat back now?" Gillichu asked. He couldn't help her if she wanted a dog, after all. He just had Alfred and there was no way he was ever going to give up his beloved border collie. But if she wanted a dog, maybe she wasn't so bad, right? So it couldn't hurt to be a little polite...

...of course, Katzenkaiser had a kneazle, and he was a cake thief. One could never be sure.

Anya looked down at the kitten, still purring in her hands. It was a nice feeling, having an animal around... it was one of those sources of comforts that she had always appreciated, but never had the opportunity to have for herself. So it was with reluctance and a huge sigh that she finally passed the cat back to Gillichu.

"Well, despite what you may think of me... I think you're alright. I hope we can run into each other again," Her smile was a bit timid, as she wasn't quite sure what his reaction would be to that. But when it came down to it, Anya didn't so much mind. The main thing was that she didn't let her temper get ahold of her and do something that she would have regretted. And she wasn't lying -- Gillichu intrigued her, he was so interesting but he just had his guard up. So she truly hoped that maybe he'd warm up to her... she'd have to work on it a bit.

"See ya around, Gillichu." Anya waved goodbye, continuing on her way.
