Gillichu was in a bad mood. He had missed dinner the night before because of silly missing firsties. And what d'you want to bet those firsties were sorted into Hufflepuff when they were eventually found? Everything happened to the Hufflepuffs! Well. Except for Salix being a werewolf. That was another thing! What was with Salix not coming back to school? How was he supposed to fight against the Axis without her invaluable input?! It was horrible.
Sighing, he cuddled Philomena closer in his lap. Only the second day back and he missed Alfred already.

Walking back into the Common Room from wherever he happened to be that day, Danny noticed a tousled head making a sighing noise that sounded a little like unhappiness. The words of his therapist echoed in his head. Hadn't he been told all summer to make more of an effort, and people will respond? Wasn't he supposed to be trying to be friendly and outgoing and communicative?
The once-again-redhead shook his hair out of his eyes, slipping over to the boy. "Hey," he said. "Something wrong?"

"...I want my dog," Gillichu mumbled, glancing up at the older boy. "I had to leave him at home because I've already got Philomena and Edmund," in his hair duck frog quacked, "and anyway, it's a cat or an owl or a toad but no dogs, which is UNFAIR." He sighed and buried his face in the kitten's fur.

Danny sat down beside Gillichu, reaching out a hand to pet the kitten. "Yeah, I've got a snake, but it lives with my parents," he said. "I don't have any pets here." He fell silent for a minute, and then cleared his throat. "I'm sorry you miss your dog," he said, trying to be friendly.

First Double Potions of his sixth year out of the way and Derek was ready for a break from all things academic. He'd known NEWT level wasn't going to be fun, but in the end it would be worth it- entrance into Auror training and all. A double slot just seemed like a lot of Potions for anyone and his attention span was grateful for the chance to lapse. It was the first week. You had to break back into these things slowly.
Quidditch recruitment, now there was something he could get behind. Derek needed something to occupy his rather insane amounts of free time and Captaincy had given him a reason to go overboard. It was kind of brilliant, really. Now, who here hadn't he bothered about tryouts yet?

Having escaped from Charms, Ruth Ann bounded into the common room, pigtails bouncing behind her. No more class until tomorrow and there was dinner to look forward to eating, yum yum yum yum yu- OH LOOK! It was her good friend, DEREK! "GREETINGS, fellow Ravenclaw!" she chirped. "How is your year so far, hmmmmmm?"
Re: Wednesday, September 6th - Late Afternoonderek_blySeptember 7 2007, 04:05:51 UTC
How was his year? Well, it could be better but things would be looking up! Derek was determined to keep thinking that and hey, Ruth Ann was a Ravenclaw. That would explain her being here obviously. And she had enthusiasm! Derek smiled.
"Not bad," he shrugged. "How about yours?" It took a good bit of effort to hold back from adding 'ever think of sports?' Just you wait, he'd get there. Timing was everything.

"It is GOOD! I'm a third year now, so I get to have three more classes and so far they are classes of AWESOME and I plan to learn how to read the future and see if I'm going to be successful in my plans for world conquest. And tomorrow I get to do Ancient Runes, and that'll be fun, and Friday I get to do Magical Creatures and that'll be SUPER NIFTY!" Ruth Ann dropped onto a couch, somehow managing to bounce several more times than the couch springs should have allowed.
Sunday, September 17th - HANNAH'S RETURN (late morning?)derek_blySeptember 20 2007, 05:30:27 UTC
Okay, Derek's weekend? Could not be better. He hadn't actually done much moving yesterday after Hannah had come back to school! They'd spent most of the rest of the day clinging or holding hands or cuddled up on the couch... Three months was a long time not to see your girlfriend. Finally something seemed to be going right for him. Well, Quidditch had been good yesterday but Hannah coming back pretty well knocked that out of the running. (And later it would occur to him to talk her into playing again this year which would be brilliant as well. Hardly in his realm of thought at the moment though.)
All of this, of course, explained why he'd completely forgotten about getting up early to spy on Gryffindor. Or Hufflepuff? Whichever was trying out this morning. Yep, Derek's mind was firmly elsewhere (and very, very content).

Hannah was curled up with Derek on one of the couches in the Common room. She was perfectly content at that very moment. Her fingers were intertwined with his, and she was busy examining their hands. "Yep," she said as she compared the two. "You definitely have the hands of a beater."
Re: Sunday, September 17th - HANNAH'S RETURN (late morning?)derek_blySeptember 20 2007, 06:33:41 UTC
Were he not perfectly comfortable, had they not been apart for so long that just sitting with Hannah was enough to make his day (though it did generally do that anyway) Derek's mind would have been quicker to take that the wrong direction. Okay, maybe it was more of a reason to think that way but Derek's brain was happily CLEAN right now, thanks. Helped that he'd spent the last two weeks mentally immersed in Quidditch.
"You think?" he asked, smirking. "And wait, is that good or bad?" Probably it depended on how she meant it. Derek tried to ignore belated and half felt urge toward embarrassment and smiled. "Captain too," he added after a moment, as though it would make a difference. He'd told her before of course- by owl- and honestly he wasn't sure if Hannah cared. She'd admitted to pretending to like Quidditch more than she did for his sake so maybe it didn't matter. Still, it seemed like a decent thing to be able to point out to your girlfriend. And it distracted from the other.

"Well, considering that you're a beater, it's a good thing." Hannah replied in a matter-of-fact tone. She was happy that he was happy, really. Plus, Quidditch was fun, and she'd always been a fan, sort of. After Gabe had gone and disappeared on her, her interest had waned. But now, with Derek as Captain, just as Gabe had been, it was picking up again.
"Yep, you're captain. Gabe was captain when he was in school, you know. It seems that I'm always around captains, I suppose."
