Tuesday May 9 - Hufflepuff Table - Lunch bryantsawyer June 1 2007, 19:05:09 UTC
Lunchtime was more like breakfast time when you were Bryant Sawyer. He'd slept late, as usual, not even really caring that much that he'd missed two classes by staying in bed so late. Hey, at least he was up in time for lunch.

He pulled a slab of roast beef onto his plate and then added some peas and some mashed potatoes (though he didn't play with them like his lame-o brother seemed to like to).

Only a few more weeks and then he was out of here. Sure, there were NEWTs coming up, but it wasn't like he cared about doing well, so unlike most of his yearmates, he was completely relaxed and stress-free.

((It's been several days, I'm stealing this open thread.))

Savannah had been ill the day before. So ill, in fact, that she'd missed Defense Against the Dark Arts and spent her entire day in bed with a rubbish bin close by.

What she wouldn't admit to was that she'd spent the day wishing that Bryant would, somehow, read her mind, know that she was sick and force his way into her dorm to take care of her. (Imagine her disappointment when that didn't happen.) He was the only one she really wanted to be around when she felt bad and it had been horrible being alone as she vomited onto a waste bin. (Though, being alone was much better than having one of her annoying dormmates watching.)

"Hey," she gave him a weak smile as she slipped into the seat next to him.

So far, today, she felt fine. She was tired, obviously, but she'd not hugged a trash can all day and that was an improvement.

"Roast beef and mashed potatoes for breakfast?"

Bryant hadn't seen Savannah for all of yesterday. That wasn't entirely unusual, but he could honestly say he was disappointed by it, anyway, because he missed her when she wasn't around. Probably busy with that lame boyfriend of hers, he figured.

He was happy to see her now, though, but his smile turned to a slight frown when he noted how tired she looked.

"It's lunchtime... are you alright?" Yes, those were two separate statements. Concern was kind of overshadowing his need to defend his food choices right now.

Of course, Bryant would assume that Savannah had spent the entire day with Barrett.

"It is lunch time," she agreed with a slight nod. "I bet you just got up, though... and now you're eating roast beef for breakfast."

As she spoke, she flashed him a bright smile and bumped him ever so slightly with her shoulder.

"I'm fine," came her quiet answer. "I was sick yesterday but I'm fine now."

At least, she thought she was fine. She hadn't actually tested that theory with food but, again, she wasn't throwing up and that was definitely an improvement.

"Sick?"

Bryant frowned at that, because after so long, he felt like it was his job to take care of her, even still, and if she'd been ill, he should have been there with soup and tea and comfort, the way he always had been.

Almost automatically, his hand reached for her forehead to check for lingering fever, even though she'd said she was fine now, and he all but ignored her teasing in his rush to be sure that she really was alright. Anyone who didn't know Bryant might think such behavior was odd, because it wasn't a side of him many people saw, saw close friends and family.

"Are you sure you're okay now?" he asked. "You look a little pale. And tired.."

Savannah secretly loved the way he worried over her, the way his face was full of concern as he felt her forehead and looked her over for signs of illness. It was nice to see that he actually cared for her. Sometimes, they fought so much that it was really hard to tell if he did.

She held back but a small part of her leaned into that simple touch to her head and she closed her eyes briefly.

"I'm... I'm not sure sure. I mean... I've not really eaten anything today but I've not had to carry a rubbish bin around with me either. It may not be well but it's certainly an improvement from yesterday."

She knew that she was pale and she looked tired because she was tired but it made her feel better to be next to Bryant.

Of course he cared. He'd known her longer than almost anyone. She was one of his absolute best friends in all the world. Sure, they bickered a lot, but it was daft to think for a second he didn't care.

"Why don't we start you with tea, then?" he suggested, smiling softly at her, a few worry lines still present as he reached for a pot and poured her a cup.

"And I don't think you should go to class today," he insisted, nodding his head firmly. "We can go back to the common room after you eat something. You should rest some more."

She didn't know how she felt about tea. It sounded good but she certainly didn't want to have to taste it twice. She wasn't sure if illness or the fear of being ill was keeping her from eating.

"Tea," she repeated, giving the cup an apprehensive glance.

His instance that she not go to class made her laugh slightly. "I'm almost finished for the day," she told him softly. "Already sat through two classes. It's too close to exams for me to miss... how about after?" she requested. "I'll be finished with Transfiguration in no time... meet me in the common room after?"

Relaxing with Bry in the common room sounded something like Heaven and she looked forward to it. However, she wouldn't miss another class... not when they were going to be having exams.

Bryant didn't miss the skeptical way she was eyeing her tea. She was definitely not well enough for class if she didn't even want to chance a little tea.

"One class missed won't hurt you. And you don't even have NEWTs this year. Besides, Transfig's tough. I don't think you should go."

True, Bryant didn't think she should ever go to class, but in this case, it was real concern that made him insist she should miss this one. She looked tired, she wasn't eating.. clearly she just needed to let him baby her so she could feel better.
