The room was filled with floating water balls. Callum had decided to repeat their last lesson because he doubted that any of the kids had spent much time on school work during their week off. Truth was that he hadn't bothered with planning new lessons and he believed that you could never practise enough.

"Shield Charms. Groups of no more than four. Work together. Knock yourselves off." With a flick of his wand he set the balls in motion.

Ethan had practiced diligently. Unfortunately he just didn't have the ability to learn wandwork very quickly. He glanced around and looked for someone to go in his group. Possibly Pimento and Cassie? Gertrude?

A ball whizzed by his head and he tried to cast a spell. Too late, and it didn't work. As he backed up, he felt himself bump into someone. "Oh, sorry."

Gertrude sighed a little as Professor Archer said they were to work in groups. She hated group work, because you always ended up with someone who slowed it all down.

Reluctantly, she joined Ethan's group. At least watching him get hit with balls was mildly entertaining. She was close to giggling at him when she noticed a ball headed her way.

"Protego" Gertie spoke the incantation confidently as she executed the proper movement. She smiled smugly to herself as the ball ricocheted off of her shield.

"You have to cast the charm before the ball hits you, Ethan."

"Wow, that was really good!" Cassie said, impressed with Gertrude's ability with charms. Hers were not that good. "Is it okay if I join your group?"

Seeing no major protest from Ethan, she ducked a flying ball of water and went to stand beside him, looking towards Gertrude hopefully. "I mean, I'm okay at charms!"

Meaning to prove herself, she tried to put up a shield charm. "Protego!" she cried. But unfortunately, her wand movement was a bit off, and the water ball whizzed past the side of her head. She bit her lip. "Okay, maybe I need more practice, but can I still join your group?" Ravenclaws had to stick together, and all that.

No more than four? Well that was a perfect number, wasn't it? Tamara glanced over at Claudia, Daria and Nessa. The four of them assembled quickly. Tamara herself wasn't particularly good at DADA, but she supposed she could do a Shield Charm. Probably.

Maybe she should let Claudia handle it.

...shield charms again?! Bah. They'd just done shield charms. Oh well. Glancing around, she looked for someone to pair up with. The Slytherin girls were out, they always teamed up together for these things...

Callum had prepared the room for a practical lesson. He had attached football sized sandbags to the ceiling which would drop randomly on the students if they weren't careful. "Form groups of no more than four. I want you to watch out for each other and fend the sandbags off. Have fun, kids."

The teacher leaned back in his chair and began to read his paper.

J.J. looked up at the sandbags and just grinned. This was bloody brilliant! Someone was going to get hurt, he could feel it, and it just made him almost giddy. With the way things have been lately he needed something to focus on.

He looked around and got out his wand, "Group?"

Trip considered the sandbags. Eh, she'd been hit with worse in some of the epic battles with her brothers and cousins. She pulled out her wand.

"I'm in. Although I don't know if I want you watching out for me. Might need to go to the hospital wing afterward", she joked to J.J.

Bloody hell, Amorisa was going to get killed doing this assignment! She eagerly huddled over to J.J. and Trip. "I'm in too, and J.J., god help you if I get hurt!" She glared at her friend, but grinned to show that she wouldn't hurt him...much.

She grinned at Trip. "Ready for some fun?"

Ben didn't hear what said at first and he looked around for someone to explain it to him. Preferably a friend. Claire maybe? He glanced around and didn't see her right away.

A sandbag fell a few feet away from him. Ben almost jumped out of his skin. Perhaps he should go stand closer to a wall.

Was there truly no one else to... No. Clearly there was not. Archer had said groups of no more than four. Could one interpret that as groups of one? At that moment a sandbag chose to fall directly on top of Adrian, sending a sprinkling of sand down the back of his robes and into all sorts of uncomfortable places- but more importantly- stumbling him directly toward that filthy Baker boy.

"Oh, FINE," he muttered. "It would seem," Adrian said slowly, as though it pained him to do so (which it did), "that we are stuck together. Tell me you are good at this." He really did not fancy being struck many more times.

Glancing up at the sandbags on the ceiling, something told Ramsey that this was one of those classic cases of someone forgetting to create a Monday lesson plan. Still, he wasn't going to complain - the activity sounded simple and mind-numbing enough that it might help him forget about the craziness of Saturday evening.

Turning to Cody, he grinned. "Team up?"

Callum patiently waited for the students to settle down before he rose from his chair. "Today, we're going to crank it up a notch." He flicked his wand and a sea of floating fire balls appeared in the room. "You're going to form groups of no less than three and will watch each other's backs. The movement of the spheres isn't predictable so you have to be very careful. Good luck!"

Derek had been fairly impressed with Archer so far. The professor hadn't taken any particular dislike to him, he hadn't threatened to burn his essays, prevented him from sitting next to Hannah, or- most importantly- threatened to kill members of his family. For the first time all year, Derek's second favored class was finally starting to challenge Transfig for the position of Favorite. Mind you, unseating Transfig was perhaps asking much of anything, but at least Derek was enjoying and looking forward to DADA again.

When Archer summoned the fireballs, Derek could tell today was going to be a good day. It took a bit of an effort to contain his excitement at a practical lesson but Derek did his best, biting his lip against a grin as he looked around for people to pair up with.
