Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomdarianaclawJanuary 14 2007, 18:29:14 UTC
Dari was leaning back on the couch, knees pulled up almost to her chest and the morning's Prophet open on her lap. She read the article about her dad again, even though she'd done it several times already, letting out yet another sigh of relief.
He was alright.. Her father was truly alright. Thank Merlin.
Even though she'd been ecstatic about her internship and life had been relatively okay, she'd really been quite worried when he was missing so long.. nearly a month. It was good he'd been found.
She bit her lip thoughtfully, wondering if she'd be allowed to go see him? Maybe she should talk to Professor Chandler and see if he could arrange something.

Matt didn't pay too much attention to the Daily Prophet, but he randomly read it enough that he'd heard about Dari's father. Well, he'd heard about the missing part, anyway. As for the part about him being found...
He hadn't read the Daily Prophet that morning, so he had no clue.
But she looked a little happier than she normally did around the Common Room, which was always a good sign, right? And another good sign was the fact that he was actually going to initiate conversation.
Because truthfully? He never did that. But he had to get over this nervous affliction at some point, and he would start with Dari. Apparently. Stepping up to her and seating himself on the very edge of the couch, he gave her a tiny smile. "...hi," he said quietly.
Point for him! He'd spoken a word without twenty more intersperced with stammering!
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomdarianaclawJanuary 14 2007, 18:45:42 UTC
Dari brightened even more when she looked up and saw Matt there. They didn't speak very often, but Dari liked when they did. Especially since they seemed to talk a lot about Ancient Runes and other interesting things.
"Hey!" she responded with a grin as she finally set the paper aside. It was pretty obvious that she was in a great mood right now. In fact, giddy might be a good word for it.
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomwhoisthatkidJanuary 14 2007, 18:54:31 UTC
Giddy was a good thing!
Of course, it also meant that he'd gotten a grin from her, which was a horrible idea. That was when he started blustering about and being generally awkward and uncomfortable. Minus the uncomfortable part, because he had made sure that his mind remembered that he talked to her about Ancient Runes.
That kind of trumped the girl thing.
That is, when they were actually talking about it.
"You're happy-- I mean, look happy." Good, that wasn't too terribly bad. Just a little bit of a stammer, nothing too serious. Hopefully he could keep it up!
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomdarianaclawJanuary 14 2007, 19:04:11 UTC
Dari nodded, because she was happy. How could she not be?
"They found him, Matt!" she told him excitedly, pointing over to the discarded paper. "They found him and he's okay and it's such great news and..." Dari babbled on like that for a good while before she suddenly, impulsively threw her arms around him and hugged him, because she had to hug somebody and Matt was just right there.
Of course, it didn't occur to her if the hug might make him uncomfortable or awkward, because all she was thinking about was how happy she was right now and how he was just the perfect person to share it with. At least, it seemed that way.
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomwhoisthatkidJanuary 14 2007, 19:14:08 UTC
Matt's glance followed her pointing when she gestured to the paper. He was grinning, because she really did look happy about-- and oh! They'd found him! That meant her father, and suddenly he knew exactly why she was looking so giddy, and what she was talking about.
It was always good to understand what was going on.
Before he could respond (which was probably for the best, since he could feel more stammering coming on), she'd thrown her arms around him.
And like that, anything that he'd been thinking went POOF. Out of his mind and into the wind or wherever loose thoughts like that went. For a moment, he just sat there, too shocked to move. He wasn't used to being hugged, especially not by girls.
Then, he brought one arm up, patting her on the back very awkwardly. "That's... that's... great. I mean... splendid!" Blink. Who the heck said splendid?!
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomdarianaclawJanuary 14 2007, 19:22:15 UTC
"It really, really is!" Dari agreed, still grinning as she pulled back. She didn't even really notice his awkwardness or that he hadn't really hugged her back very well, because she was too busy focusing on the HAPPY.
"I'm so relieved, you know?" she asked, wrinkling her nose a little (in that cute way she had) and leaning back against the couch again, though her head was still turned to look at him. "It's really the best possible news."
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomwhoisthatkidJanuary 15 2007, 04:27:51 UTC
"Have you... uh... well, I guess, talked... to uh, well, that's probably a stupid question, since it looks like you heard from the paper, but have you... talked to him? Yet?"
Hey, he was managing to do better! Not only was he only stammering and backtracking a little, but he'd managed to get out an entire question without killing himself or blushing. It must have been a new record for him or something.
Of course, it helped that she'd pulled back, even if she was making cute faces and still smiling at him. Granted, he knew that she wasn't smiling at him, but it looked like she was, anyway.
He was still smiling at her as he shifted a little, trying to make himself look a little more comfortable, even if he was sitting on the edge of the couch. Ready to bolt at any moment, that was Matt Parker.
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomdarianaclawJanuary 15 2007, 04:52:47 UTC
Dari shook her head. "No, he hasn't owled or anything, but I'm going to see if Dumbledore'll let me go visit him at St. Mungos or something." She smiled again and, yes, she had been smiling at him, but she didn't think anything of it. She liked Matt, after all and they were having a nice talk.
She noticed his posture on the sofa, though, and she frowned a little. "I'm not keeping you from anything, am I?" she asked. She wasn't used to boys wanting to run away from her and she would hate to think he didn't want to be sitting with her, but he sure was acting like it!
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomwhoisthatkidJanuary 15 2007, 05:10:17 UTC
Oh!
She'd noticed the way he was sitting. Oops.
Shaking his head emphatically, he forced himself to sit back, looking just a little more comfortable. "No, no, you're... no! I'm all yours-- I mean, not like that or anything, I just... oh, I'll shut up now."
He flumped his head back against the couch cushion, expression slightly embarrassed. Why did he always stuff his foot into his mouth? It was one of the major cock-ups that he had all the time, and he would have much rather preferred to be suave with the women.
It would have been a lot easier, anyway.
Of course, then he opened his mouth again. "You should owl him, if he's in St. Mungos." And the sentence had come out sans stammering! Shock of all shocks!
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomdarianaclawJanuary 15 2007, 05:38:43 UTC
Dari smiled again as he say back and at his words, because she hadn't taken them in that way anyway and it was nice to know that he did want to be there.
"I don't want you to shut off," she countered, grinning and sitting back again herself. He didn't need to be embarrassed, because she didn't care if he was suave or not. She liked how he was and he was nice to talk to, so that's what mattered.
"That's a really great idea, Matt," she told him, smiling at his suggestion and nodding her head. "Thank you!"
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomwhoisthatkidJanuary 15 2007, 05:50:37 UTC
"Okay," he replied softly, his smile bright and wide as he finally sank into the cushion of the couch. He didn't naturally look very comfortable when he sat in the Common Room, but he would try right now.
After all, he always tended to like talking to Dari.
They'd had some great conversations about Ancient Runes, and he appreciated that a lot. Nodding as she thanked him, he sheepishly shrugged. It wasn't that brilliant of an idea, really. Just something that common sense dictated.
"So I guess..." he stopped before he started to stammer, because he'd felt it coming on. How annoying. Clearing his throat, he started talking a little faster. Maybe increasing his speed would mean that he would talk minus the awkwardness. "...it's silly to ask how you are. Since you're obviously good!"
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomdarianaclawJanuary 15 2007, 06:07:07 UTC
I'm fantastic," she confirmed, beaming over at him as she settled into the sofa a bit more. "Things are finally coming together, you know?"
The career fair, her dad being alright.. yep, things were coming together quite nicely indeed.
After a moment, Dari leaned into him a little, letting her head fall onto his shoulder. She didn't think twice about it, because it was the sort of thing she'd do with Nico or Jeremy or any number of other boys she knew. Dari was just a physical person like that and that kind of friendly cuddling came second nature to her.
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomwhoisthatkidJanuary 15 2007, 07:38:21 UTC
"What... what do you mean, things-- you don't have to tell me if you don't want or anything, but I was just curious..."
Matt trailed off when he felt her head on his shoulder. He looked down, a little startled, but didn't pull away. He would have, but she'd pointedly mentioned that he'd looked like he had somewhere to be.
So now he had to prove that he didn't.
And that meant that he would have to just be the awkward, bumbling, Matthew Parker that he was. His face tinged with pink again, a tiny smile coming to his lips. "And it's good... I mean, that everything's coming together. You deserve it!"
Another sentence pulled off without stammering. He deserved an award or something.
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomdarianaclawJanuary 15 2007, 08:27:28 UTC
Dari missed the look or any other signs of him being uncomfortable and she noticed that he was very nice to lean on. She laughed as he trailed off though and shook her head.
"No.. I forget I haven't told the old world yet," she told him, waved a hand to dismiss the idea that she wouldn't want to tell him. "I'm going to intern with the Unspeakables this summer. I just found out over the weekend."
Then, if possible, her grin just got wider, because that was just as exciting as her dad being found. Possible even MORE exciting.
Re: Monday February 27th - After Breakfast - Common RoomwhoisthatkidJanuary 15 2007, 17:09:49 UTC
Matt's jaw dropped open when she said that she'd gotten an internship with the Unspeakables. That was definitely something to be proud of! He would have been bounding down the halls, likely running into everyone, and babbling at everyone who would listen had it been him.
She was remarkably calm about it.
"Really?!"
He sounded incredulous, and there was no hint of his stammer or awkwardness for the moment. It had been forgotten in his amazement and the general excitement. "That's... Merlin! You'll have to tell me all about it!" he exclaimed, without even thinking about the fact that they were called 'Unspeakables' for a reason.
He was alright.. Her father was truly alright. Thank Merlin.
