Sara seemed startled she looked at him in surprize, but offered him a quick smile. They didn't always get along, hell, they had quite a few common traits especially when it came to routines and schedules, something they both got from their mom. their younger brother Daniel on the other hand lived completely in the moment of whatever he was doing. The point was that even though Jojo was Sara's older brother they didn't stick to each other like glue, Sara was far to independant right from the start to look to her brother for guidance.

She eyed him shrewdly for a moment though before turning back to her porridge. It wasn't that they only spoke when something was up, but Jojo didn't tend to come over and sit down at the Slytherin table to have breakfast with his little sister, and the only time he didn't start off the conversation by refering to her size, or teasing her about her breakfast of choice was when he was being serious or distracted.

"Do you need money?" she suddenly asked him, he'd never needed it before, both of them learned how to be careful with money, not like Daniel who must have been 3 months in debt from both of them. He must want something, but Sara couldn't imagine what.

"It's not for next weekend is it?" she asked suspiciously. She might have gotten further but this was when the Owls started arriving with the mail.

A Daily Prophet was brought to Sara and she paid the owl for it, but she noticed that a letter came from mom too with a postal owl. "Hey!" she grabbed the envelop, turning it over to check. "It's addressed to both of us from mom." she seemed surprized and forgot about the Daily Prophet for a moment as she began carefully opening the envelop.

In spite of himself and completely going against his sombre mood, Jojo smiled at Sara's greeting. Really, it was just like her to question his finances. He shook his head slowly, vaguely wondering had Sara heard about him and Calie yet. Not many did, they'd been fairly subtle really.

"I don't need mon-..." Jojo paused when the owl dropped the Prophet, and another followed with a letter. His eyes lingered on the letter as he wished for a moment that he hadn't read that bloody paper in the common room. The Gryffindor had decided that it was easily the worst way to learn of a loved one's death. Stupid bloody reporters, shouldn't be allowed name names until the family had been informed.

Jojo took the Daily Prophet into his hands and slid it away to the end of the table. They didn't need that. He glanced at the envelope and frowned, holding his hand out for it. "I already know what it's about..." He started slowly. Jojo tried to look calm, confident...the usual. But he just couldn't. It was obvious to look at him that the young man was shaken and nervous. He was once again questioning what he should already know. There was an uncertainty about his actions that only ever appeared when he was upset, Jojo was usally quite purposeful in his movement...unless there was a girl around. Then he was all blushes but that was completely beside the point.

"Er, I really don't know how to say this," Admitted the older boy, he scratched his head unsurely as he ran his eyes along the seal of the dark brown envelope. "Sara, you know that...that um, trip dad was going on?" Pause. "Well, the boat...the boat crashed and..." Jojo could feel his voice cracking as he spoke. Way to be a supportive older brother, breaking down in front of her was not going to make this any easier. "Dad's dead, Sara." The Gryffindor swallowed thickly, pulling Sara into a hug (whether she wanted it or not). He managed to quell whatever emotions he had rising within him from the blunt, harsh statement he'd just made. He had to be there for Sara. He could deal with it later, but Sara needed him. Jojo needed to be all there for her.

sara had almost completely opened it when Jojo held out his hand for it, she was reluctant, she wanted to read the letter first. But Jojo had this weird look on his face and she almost absently handed it to him when he stated he knew what it was about.

When he mentioned their Dad's trip to Egypt she frowned deeper and just nodded slightly.

...the boat crashed the words rang through her head, well so what? dad was a wizard he could just apparate away...

Dad's dead, Sara, and then she was crushed in Jojo's arms, she didn't know what to say, she sat mutely, her eyes lost focus and unable to see as her face was slightly crushed against her big brothers shirt. She didn't move, she didn't hug him back, she didn't even cry.

No. he had to be wrong. of course he was wrong, dad wouldn't just die. he was Dad.

She pushed back. "stop it Jojo" she spoke harshly, frowning at him. "that's not funny." she told him crossly. "you're lying Joey Jenkins, you're a big fat liar." she told him, not sure why she was shaking, or why her face was wet, or better yet why he was blurry.... probably because she knew, deep down that he wouldn't play this joke.

"No" she whispered. "No, no no no no" she continued suddenly reaching for the evelope to grab it from his hands, to tear it open and try to read the letter.

((I dun care if it's the next day!!))

Jojo felt the girl go limp in his arms and sighed softly, stroking his sister's hair out of her face. He basically sat there in silence as she lay on him, not knowing what else to do. When she sat up, Jojo could tell immediately that Sara was about to try and have a go at him. That just wasn't on, not..not now. "Why would I lie about this?" He asked coldly. "What fun could possibly be taken from this?"

Reluctantly, the Gryffindor gave the letter to his sister and watched as she tried to read it through her tears. Jojo read it from over her shoulder, a reassuring hand on Sara's arm at all times. He didn't know what to do. Were they going to have to go home? Attend a funeral? Jojo couldn't think that far ahead. What was he meant to do now? Just spend the day moping around as plans were made? That wasn't going to sit well with him if that was the case.

His bottom lip quivered a little when he reached the last paragraph and Jojo could feel his own eyes burning. He wasn't going to be able to hold it much longer, it just wasn't...what were they going to do?

Sara read the letter three times before the words finally sunk in, years of reading had made her a quick reader but she held that letter forever.

Her eyes lifted to gaze around the Main Hall and saw an older year looking pretty distressed as well, were her parents among the missing or dead? Jojo would feel Sara's back straighten, he'd feel the tenseness that ran through her.

Now was not the time to lose ones head, now was not the time to burst into tears and scream 'why me?', life happened, yes, that's it, life happened, parents died, sure they weren't killed in boat sinkings but..

suddenly she put down the letter and reached for the daily prophet Jojo had set aside and unfolded it, her eyes reading over the article, the small tiny almost insignificant article, as if uncaring that -their- father had died.

"We're going home" she suddenly said, her voice wasn't soft, but it wasn't cold either, it was determined. "We're going home and we're going to find out what really happened."

She turned back to Jojo to find him on the verse of breaking down. She couldn't have that, she couldn't have him breaking down because she was scared and helpless and she needed her big brother to be strong too.

"Joey." she told him softly. "We have to go home, we have to find out what happened and we have to go today, we'll catch the knight bus if we have to. we'll go to hogsmeade and steal someone's fireplace and floo powder if we have to. hell, I will ride a broom, but we are going home."

She stood up and straightened her robes, now something she did to distract her from the pain that was ripping through her chest, from the tightness, from the fact that her throat was going to close up on her any second.

"I'm going to go pack." she told him firmly, making sure he had mom's letter in his hands. Mom who had told them to wait at school, that they were safe at hogwarts and that she would send for them. No, Sara had to go home now. she had to go home and talk to mom, had to know what happened. Mom was far too vague in her letter and it wasn't right.

"Sara, we can't go home. Not like that," Jojo stated, taking the letter from her as she tried to speed past him. He had his own suspicions about what happened (damn Nico and his conspiracy theories), but he knew he wouldn't get a clear answer out of his mother so early after the death. Jojo knew to leave it a few days before even trying to pry. The family would have enough to deal with now, their own grief as well as each other's grief. They would be each others support system, unite together and stand strong...all of that stuff would now come into play as they faced the first big thing that had happened in this war to affect them all.

"You can go and pack, but we won't be leaving until later," He called after her ignoring the crack in his voice as he clenched the paper in his fists. Jojo stood and walked out of the hall, he had to speak to Corina..or..someone. Anyone really. He needed to clear it with them that both he and Sara would be absent for a few days. He needed to find Calie too. "I'll go find Mayfield," Jojo muttered, turning down a different hallway. He was headed for the Teacher's Lounge.

((End Thread?))
