Had my first migraine yesterday

Mar 14, 2015 20:57

I'd had little episodes before that I thought might be mild, painless migraines - and perhaps they were.  But what happened to me on Friday was nothing like those minor interludes of light/sound sensitivity and impaired speech.

I really had no idea what it was like. I thought they were just about pain!

But I had visual distortions (a pulsing, fluorescing crack in the air), nausea, skin tingling, and acute sensitivity to light and sound as well as very concentrated pain. Ibuprofen did nothing, might as well have been tic-tacs.

Caffeine and quiet did help after a few hours (which is why I said I apparently got off lucky.)

The one thing that seemed unusual (at least based on the characterizations of migraines on webMD) was that the pain was all in front and seemed to be pouring down my nose. WebMD made it sound like the pain was sometimes in one side and sometimes the other, but it didn't say anything about front and back.

Thanks. I found the whole episode very shocking: not only had that never happened to me before, but I didn't realize what an emotional, whole-body experience it could be.

But it's not just a headache, is it? It's not just about pain. It's a whole-body experience

That's about the size of it. **hugs**

That's what's so shocking. They don't tell you this! They make it sound just like pain in the head, not pain & nausea & panic!
