A friend of mine who moved to a different state some years ago has had her second child! Yay!
I'd like to send a gift. But I don't know what to send, and I actually don't have her street address. Would an email-delivered gift certificate be appropriate? To what? And for how much?
I know that gift certificates can be problematic because to get all the value of the gift out of them, you usually have to spend more than the value of the gift certificate. So I would want the gift certificate to be to a place at which they probably already spend money.
Amazon struck me as a possibility: they sell a huge variety of stuff and as far as I know, most people have no political or ethical objections to shopping from them (as they might from, say, Wal-Mart.)
What do you folks think?
