Tuesday, March 30th - A quiet wizarding pub somewherelenore_greySeptember 4 2008, 04:16:07 UTC
Lenore had really thought that with working for the Ashworths and having the freedom to do basically anything she wanted, she'd have been off this island for sure; spending time somewhere warm, never mind safer. For some reason, she kept finding herself back though. Seriously, she was going to investigate a novelty in Brazil or Italy any day now. Check out and stay away for a few months. Hopefully

Ed was supposed to be meeting someone to make plans of an alliance with the order. That seemed to be what his job in the order was becoming now; and unfortunately he had no real job yet to speak of.
His eyes scanned the room for the man he was supposed to meet but stopped abrubtly when he saw Lenore. Immediately he was reminded of their last conversation which hadn't ended well. And of course was followed by the attack that had left her in the hospital.
Well that hadn't made him feel guilty at all but Ed didn't know what to do with himself. So in the end he just ended up staring at her from the entrance.. stuck between deciding what he should do and what he wanted to do.

To say that Lenore was enjoying her evening was probably an overstatement. She wasn't sure why she was here but it had seemed like a comfortable place to have dinner. She used to come here after work occasionally and even if the Ministry made her uncomfortable as a general rule anymore, Lenore wasn't going to let them take one of her pubs from her. It wasn't like she was a regular these days anyway. Safe enough.
She'd been having the quiet meal she was after until she glanced up and saw Ed Agate at the door. Fuck. She looked away quickly and tried to maintain a calm expression as she stared at her food. This was not good. Ed was quite possibly the last person on in the world she wanted to run into. Maybe he hadn't seen her yet. That would be ideal. She could leave money for the food here and sneak out the loo or something

Ed sighed and rubbed his mouth as he tried to decide how to handle things. First - he finished looking around for his associate and didn't see him. So there was no pressing meeting to attend for the moment.. and he did feel like he owed Lenore something.. although he still stood behind the words he'd spoken to her on their last encounter.
"Bloody hell" he mumbled as he decided to at least act... normal? and go up and say hi. Yeah, this wasn't awkward.
He stood a safe distance from her table; not inviting himself to sit down (as he might have done in the past) but trying to test the waters so to speak.

Oh god. She knew that voice.
Lenore went still, unwilling to turn and face him. In fact, she turned her head farther the other direction, all too happy to hide behind her hair as it fell over one shoulder- an extra curtain between her and him. She could feel Ed standing there as though he were radiating waves of heat but of course it was only her nerves talking there. She was painfully aware of his being there though and she had no idea what to do about it.
She didn't want to talk to him.
"Yeah, well I don't imagine you're too sorry about it," Lenore managed, barely. Her voice wavered even with so little said and she cursed herself for ever letting him in. This was stupid. She turned completely away and took a step, hoping she could keep from looking at him as she made her escape.

"You can't imagine.." And that's all he could really say about it. It wasn't an apology but it did describe the guilt and sorrow he had when he'd heard about what had happened with her.
Ed stood his ground though, deciding to try and stick this out; whatever this turned into. If she wanted him gone he'd leave but there was so much between them that he felt that it was worth trying for.

Lenore didn't know why she only took the one step. Somehow she got that far and stopped again, frozen by a crushing weight of...dread? She wasn't sure what it was but being caught by Ed threw her off. She wasn't prepared to deal with this.
His words only added to her confusion. Lenore stood where she was and swallowed. It was fine and well for him to apologize now- and decidedly more like him then what had passed before- but she didn't dare let herself think of it seriously. How could she? Admitting that he might be honestly sorry now just didn't fit into Lenore's reality. You didn't say something like that to a "friend" and get to realize later that you'd gone too far. She wiped at her eye, refusing to acknowledge any errant moisture because it would go away if she didn't pay attention to it. Lenore turned a hurt and angry look back at him over one shoulder. "You're right."

Ed let out an audible sigh, like he had been keeping something from crushing him and now just decided to let it go. "Well.."
If she didn't want to deal with him that was just the way things had to go he supposed. They were at an impasse where he just didn't know what he could do to get through it without lying. And he'd never lied to Lenore before, which was part of what had got them there in the first place.
"I guess... I'll..." Ed didn't really fumble with his words that much but this situation was hard. All Ed really wanted to do was hug her and hear all about where she's been and if she's all right but had a feeling that his rights to do that had been revoked a long time ago.

"What?" Lenore demanded, her voice taking on an odd edge. "You'll what?" It was clear that she was upset but she was trying to hold onto her defensive anger rather than let the hurt surface. She couldn't have said how well she managed it. There was an unquestionable waiver still in her words.
What did he want from her? "Why are you here?" Lenore couldn't imagine that he had planned to run into her but he'd seen her and chosen to walk over. Why? Who did that? He should have known he had no right, that she hated him now. She'd trusted him and he'd thrown that right back in her face, shown her just how little he cared for her esteem. Nothing he said could matter now. Of course that didn't account for how much it hurt to see him here, to be reminded of how fond she'd been of Ed at one point.

Her voice felt like a smack to the face and he flinched a bit at the words but accepted them with a sad resignation. "I'll go."
His hand moved up to rub his chin again, trying to wipe away something that wasn't really there. "I.." He sighed loudly again, deciding that this wasn't the best time even if she did open up and talk to him. "I have a meeting I better get to anyway..."
Ed took a small step towards the back of the pub but then wondered if he should say a formal goodbye or not. Their relationship had changed so much that it confused him.

"I'll make it easy for you," Lenore said, rather proud of how well she was holding it together. She had been leaving anyway right? Well, since seeing him arrive. She wasn't about to hang around. Without another look, she turned and started through the milling crowd in the pub. Front door it was, apparently.
