Re: Saturday, Dec 23rd - Early Evening - a pub somewhere in Scotlandlenore_greyApril 4 2008, 02:42:39 UTC
Lenore didn't know why she was even here.
By all rights she should be at home. By herself. Or maybe if she wanted to stop wallowing she would have floo'd over to Callum's or Geoffrey's or Mac's without giving notice and demanded that they entertain her- without mentioning the why. Then again no, not Geoffrey. The last thing Lenore needed on her birthday was to be around that younger man so that he could poke fun at her. Not today.
Somehow being independently employed had already lost it's shiny edge, much as she tried to deny it. Well, the spending sprees were fun. But in truth, Lenore's heart wasn't in it. It wasn't the same wandering around as she pleased. There was no authority to buck, no high flung opinions to mockingly defy. Most of all though, Lenore found she missed people. Of course, traveling where and when she liked gave her plenty of opportunity to socialize but it wasn't the same. Nothing was the same. She missed having the same people to bother. She missed the coffee breaks when there was actually work to break from, not just time to kill or good graces to be worked into.
Or maybe it was just today. Lenore had never been fond of birthdays. It wasn't even the growing older, though to be honest, she wasn't crazy about the approach of 40. 39 sounded...not old perhaps but, worn. Lenore thought she'd have more to show for it by now. Instead it only felt as though everything she'd had was gone- or slipping away.
It was safe to say this was not going down as one of her better birthdays. Going out was at least an attempt at being something other than glum, though. Maybe she'd get it out of her system.

It had been plenty long enough since Jenn had gotten up that Ken thought he could intercept her on the way back without it being suspicious. Not that he really cared if anyone noticed but half the fun of these things was thinking that you were getting away with something, even if you weren't.
Another good looking brunette brushed by in front of him as he made his way past the bar. Ken wouldn't have stopped but...he sort of knew her. "Sorry, Grey."

Lenore wasn't about to stop either but being recognized here wasn't something she'd expected. That was part of the beauty of Muggle pubs. The use of her name turned her head around. Given who it was, she wasn't sure she should be happy to be noticed.
Somehow the bump now seemed personal. "Right. I'm sure you are then."

"No need to get touchy," Kenneth defended, raising his hands as proof that he didn't want to start anything. She would take it personally. Still a bitch apparently. "Just being polite."

"Whatever." Lenore really didn't want to deal with this right now. "Why are you here anyway? Go," she paused, searching for words, "find your own corner of the pub." Honestly, the one time she wandered about in Scotland again.

There was no reason it should get to him, except that he simply didn't like the woman, but Ken's brow lowered in annoyance. "Oh, do you own the bar then?" he asked pointedly. Just for that he slipped past her to order another round. Jenn would be coming back now anyway; window of opportunity missed.

"Piss. Off," Lenore declared, shoving her way past him against the bar. Crone was being intentionally obnoxious now, even if he hadn't started out that way. And Lenore suspected he had. Bloody fucking Gryffindor. "This is not the day, alright? Just go."
With a sigh she caught the eye of the bartender and ordered her scotch.

"Touchy, touchy," Ken mocked. If Grey ever had good days, Ken was sure he wasn't the one she'd show them to. "As it happens I'm not here to bother you. You were in my way." He paused, drinks in hand to give her a look. "And I'm going now. So enjoy your night."

He was leaving. Like she'd asked. Lenore wasn't sure what to do with that. She quieted. "Right."
It had nothing to do with her telling him to leave of course. He wasn't here specifically to annoy her. Crone just happened to be here. He probably had friends and a life. She had nothing to do with any of it. Even being a bint just for the sake of it wasn't worth anyone's time or attention. She was insignificant.
As he walked away, Lenore paid her tab- closed- and polished off her drink quickly. She didn't want to stick around here after all.
