I applied to Baker (Flint) yesterday.

I know that sounds a little out of the blue, but it's an idea I've been tossing around for a couple of months now. Dorms are cheap (even though it's a five minute drive away from home), although tuition is a couple thousand greater than Oakland. If I can get my GPA up to 3.5 by the end of first sememster, senior year, they'll pay for all of my dorming and about $4000 out of my tuition - yearly. Considering I've got my MEAP scholarship and I'm bound to snag a couple more, my entire Freshmen year could be a full ride.

It isn't a liberal arts school. Instead of requiring you to take Biology courses and fine arts courses in order to get a degree in something technology-related, they only make you take classes releated to your degree. I like that. It's something I've complained about for years now. To see a school that agrees with me, pleases me.

One of the biggest things, though, is that Baker's recruited me into one of their "unspoken of" programs. It's kept out of those class catologues, so the only way you can find out about it is if an Admissions Officer tells you about it. Classes are taught by the Dean and Assistant Dean themselves.

It's a three year, double Associates Degree class. Over the course of my first year, I'd be earning my MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer), and during the last year I'd earn my LCSE (Linux Certified Systems Engineer). I could stop there, but chances are I'll go to college for another two years to earn a Security certification for both systems. It's a hefty five years, but it's a good choice. It also doesn't run the risk of any job I get my hands on being outsourced, which programming would run a high risk of.

He also suggested mechanical engineering because I'm a girl who excells in math, but I turned that down. It would be another smart choice, but I'm not interested. So, I ended up applying for the three year, double Associates Degree program. I'll be accepted; it was done for paperwork's sake. Now I just need to get that 3.5 (and I'm at a 3.46) and start applying for scholarships.

Oakland isn't ruled out, but I'm starting to lean a little towards Baker. =/
