~ It is, as logic would dictate, a lot easier to write a paper on something I've read at least twice. Especially if taught in different classes. All of the sudden, there are so many angles you could possibly explore as you understand more stuff.
~ Sometimes just writing something you WANT to write will give you confidence about writing things quickly that you are not as keen about doing. I randomly wrote a 3.5 page single-spaced/ 7 page double-spaced article about defending first amendment rights for comics, and then was amused at how fast writing my four page paper on Hamlet went.
~ Me: "ARGH. Are you trying to make my brain implode?"
Joy: "*laughter* Is that even a word?"
Me: "Uh, yeah."
Joy: "Oh..."
~ Reading and looking at lots of random shit over the years will make you sound surprisingly erudite and cultured at the oddest times ("Oh, is that a photo by Mapplethorpe?" "You know EVERYTHING, Christy!" "Oh, I was just bored one day and was going through an online gallery of photographs by him...").
~ Just because you go to NYU doesn't mean that everyone has a good vocabulary. I still feel weird having to define words to people who are in the academic schools of my university. It's not good for my ego as I keep feeling like people are dumber than I am. I guess all I really need to do is compare grades to bring me back to Earth...
~ Just because someone is an English major too doesn't always mean that they'll appreciate it when you use words like "Literary analysis and criticism as emotional catharsis." They may accuse you too of using big, scary, words. Either that, or N was being an asshole because I was going off on a weird tangent. Well, he better be. Big words? Please.
~ Reading stuff off the internet is SO much more fun than writing crap.
~ I need to figure out how to do more cultural analysis work into my English work.
~ My Crita writing is getting better because I am an idiot and just realized that yes, I can use the same techniques after all in my fantasy writing as my "literary" writing. That makes me sound like a snob. Which leads me neatly to my next conclusion...
~ I am: Literary English Lit Major Snob Who Hangs Out With /b/. Need to do more schoolwork though the coming semester and not hang out so much with /b/.
