This went up when I was in the middle of my finals and it was an exercise of more self-restrain that I honestly knew that I possessed not to pounce on it the first second that I saw it had been posted.
Way to pile on the suspense! Jeezy-creezy, I was facepalming with great frequency because of all the tension and them being such... gah, I lack the proper descriptors. ‘Knuckleheads’ seems a little middle school, but that's what I'm mainly getting.
Have I mentioned how much I love the way you can turn a phrase? "...and the next backing off so fast he was leaving skid marks?" Love. This one evokes not only mental imagery, but even the frantic screech of tires.
Then there's the parts where you pull something like this:

One day, assuming such a day ever came, he would do something for this man out of some sort of love (though he had his doubts about undying devotion), and be sure to tell him so, just to erase that wistfulness."
That's just flat-out sneaky playing on our heartstrings like that!
Plus there's the characterization that just... ::flails::
"The only time Jim could be accused of overanalyzing was if it was accidental.
I just felt the need to repeatedly point out how awesome you are. Ya know.
Because dayam.
