JIMMY EAT WORLD/GREEN DAY - AUGUST 26th 2005 - The Day After Hurricane Katrina

Live at the Office Depot Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida!

What A Kick Ass Show!

Well, the day started out by being kinda bad. I was bummed that they might cancel and reschelude the show to another day because of the Hurricane just the day before, We still decided to go across the state just to see if they still are playing, sure enough while on Alligator Alley, the band came on the radio and said the show is STILL ON! So, that was a plus! We got there really early, so we went across the street to "Sawgrass Mills" and saw a movie, "40 Year Old Virgin" - funny shit. So, we got an awsome parking spot and started to the line. Got into the venue and bought a flag-type wall hang of the "holding on to my heart, like a hand grenade" symbol. and then made my way to the floor.

Jimmy Eat World came out and rocked. Their set reminded me of the time I saw them open for Green Day and Blink 182 on the Pop Disaster Tour. They had this background of the city landscape like in their cd booklet, kinda-like Tron-ish looking. They played songs from Bleed American and Futures and did my favorite song on Clarity, "Blister". I loved their set.

Jimmy Eat World's Setlist:

Futures Intro
Pain
Bleed American
Blister
Work
Futures
Get It Faster
A Praise Chorus
The Middle
Sweetness

After Jimmy Eat World, I was getting stoked for Green Day. After a few minutes, the Beer Bunny came out to YMCA for a laugh like always. Funny stuuf, then Blitzkreig Bop started on the House Speakers and we knew it was time. Green Day came out to a HUGE Response! They pretty much played the same set that they played in Orlando but with a couple of surprises. They did jokes about Hurricane Katrina, talk about how Florida is one of their favorite places to play, the VMA's, and made fun of idiots. During Shout, they also added the little part of the song "Stand By Me"..."when the night, is long....stand, stand by me". And During Knowledge they made history! They had to pick THREE DIFFERENT DRUMMERS!

I would have to say that this show was a whole heel of a lot better than the Orlando Show, the crowd was more crazy and the band sounded better at this show. Great Show!
