Ain't seen so many strawberries for longer than I can say. All prettied up and covered in chocolate. It's plumb nice here. Nicer than I ever seen with them all-fired into makin' things right prettiful for that shindig. Wish Inara were here so's we could go look at all the fancy dec'rations. Simon took a deep breath as he approached the shop. Having taken her notes from her post on the Network, Simon stopped off at a candy store and picked up a box of chocolate-covered strawberries, hoping the gesture wouldn't appear to be too forward or awkward or anything.

It was still strange seeing the large space ship stuck out of the shop like it was, almost like an oversized cat trying to stuff its face into a mouse hole. He would have stopped to admire the absurdity, but no. Simon Tam was on a mission.

His heart pounding wildly against his chest, he entered the shop and looked around for any sign of his date friend.

"Kaylee? Kaylee are you here?"

Kaylee spent the time before Simon's arrival desperately looking through her small store of clothing for something pretty enough. She still had a few things that could pass for nice. But Simon was fanciful and she was just a mechanic.

"Simon!" Kaylee smiled brightly, dressed in a blue kimono she picked out just for the date festival.

The dull sound of hammers echoed through the shop as she made her way over to him, nervously brushing the hair out of her eyes.

Simon couldn't help himself but to smile brightly as Kaylee appeared. The blue was a good color on her and the outfit seemed to add a natural grace to the young lady who wore it. As he studied her, he felt the heat rise to his face. Hopefully she wouldn't notice.

"Wow.. You look fantastic," Simon said, taking a look over her and laughing almost nervously. "Oh, and before I forget.. I saw you mention these.. so I stopped to get you some." He pushed the box toward her and cleared his throat. "If you don't like them, I'm sure I can get you something else."

Gao Guhn!" A look of pure happiness spread across her face as she took the box. She tried to contain her excitement, but a small squeak of joy escaped her and she hugged him before taking the box. This was even better than when the Preacher brought those strawberries onto Serenity.

"These are mighty fine. Ain't nothin' wrong with these." A faint blush grew on her cheeks as she fiddled with straightening her Kimono.

A feeling of pride swelled inside the young doctor's chest as he measured the look on her face. Her smile was infectious and caused his own to grow even wider. "Well I'm glad that you like them."

He then cleared his throat and held out his arm in a most gentlemanly fashion for her to take. "Well then, shall we be on our way?"

Simon was powerful sweet, it made her feel all tingly inside. He wasn't like other guys. Kaylee hooked her arm in his, holding onto it with a nervous flutter in her stomach. She didn't meet many gentleman.

"Festivals got a big to-do 'round the city. Been hearin' folks talk about it all day." She smiled up at him, walking towards the door with her arm hooked tight in his.

"So have I. It sounded like a lot of fun. It was... kind of why I wanted to know if you wanted to go. Seems like your kind of thing." He walked beside her, even taking a moment to open the door for her to let her out first. "It seems like kind of a big deal around here. Don't really know why, but I guess some people don't need a reason to celebrate.

Kaylee blushed a fair shade of pink, slipping her hand into Simon's as they walked towards the celebration. It might have been forward or some other nonsense but Kaylee Frye wasn't letting him squirm away with this one. Besides, the action sent a warm flurry through her like fluffy little butterflies. Keeping her eyes on the sidewalk ahead, she smiled cheerfully, as she often did.

"'Sides, place looks nice all prettied up. Shiny. All the fluffy colors and decorations. "

Simon's nerves seemed to return with full force as Kaylee's hand gripped his own and tugged him toward the festivities. For a mechanic, Simon noted, Kaylee seemed to keep pretty good care of her hands. A sure sign of self-respect, he thought.

As Simon laid eyes on the carnival, his jaw dropped a bit. There were decorations everywhere and sugary sweetness seemingly dripping from the buildings lining the street. He'd never seen anything quite like it.

"Wow. When they hold a festival, they really hold a festival.."

"Look at all the pretties!" Kaylee watched all the people wandering about the festival in all manners of dress, but the ones that really stood out were the ones dressed in beautiful gowns and dresses. The kind Kaylee could only dream of owning. She could hear the Captain in her head, clear as day. What would she do with all those pretty clothes but hang them up in her little room? She couldn't afford things that elegant anyway. Regardless she smiled as one of them walked by.

"They got no short of shiny here. So many colors. Like pretty little birds, all fluttery and fluffed up." She smiled at all the people, her voice holding a hint of awe.
