All right, I'm about to make a really geeky entry. If you are not interested in the card game known as "Magic: the Gathering", I suggest you ignore this.
All right, a few days ago (Friday the 21st) I held a Magic tournament at my house. It was great fun, even though I ended up in 4th place out of nine. Clay was the victor, with Calvin a very close second. For me, the most exciting moment was my game with Clay. We were playing a two-out-of-three match (everyone played a 2/3 match with everyone else, and the winner was decided by the number of wins and losses) and we had already each won a game. We each had only a few life points remaining, and we each had several creatures in play. It was obvious that the game was near its end. I was closing in on victory, as Clay currently had no flying creatures in play, and thus could not block my
Skeletal Vampire or his bats (I think I had 4 or 5 of them at that point). The damage that they could deal would be more than enough to win, but Clay's deck contained some really good cards, and I was worried that he would manage to proverbially pull something out of his ass to win. With this thought, I attacked him with not only the Skeletal Vampire and accompanying bats, but all of my nonflying creatures as well. It turns out that this is exactly what he wanted me to do, as he then played
Fog, taking absolutely no damage and leaving me vulnerable to attack, as all my creatures had been used in the attack, and would not be able to block his next turn. The tables having turned, Clay attacked me with every creature he had, in order to completely wipe me out, and smiled in victory - then I played
Simulacrum, redirecting all damage to my
Nightscape Familiar and regenerating it - leaving me totally unaffected and Clay completely vulnerable to my horde of creatures. I was the only person who beat Clay that night.
I'm planning another tournament around 2:00 on the 12th of August - if you're interested in attending, let me know.
I'll post more about the tournament later, along with a photo of the scoreboard.`
