I visited two schools today.
The first, in Madison Heights, was 70 degrees and fabulous.
The second, in Detroit, was 124908139048124908129048129048 degrees and miserable. My former students were covered in sweat and dirt (some from lack of showering/plumbing, but most from the busted black top they call a playground.)
DeAngelo, who cannot read or write (and CANNOT means CAN'T, not IS BAD AT), is being PROMOTED TO THE SIXTH GRADE because he is "old enough." YEAH, and completely illiterate.
My people, my people.
In lighter news, my grandpa told me that he heard Barack Obama was planning to paint the White House black. I don't know if he was kidding, being racist, or being 80 millions years old and a lil crazy, but it was endearing nonetheless.
