A Gathering

Confused. Hopeful. Determined. Desperate. Every one of those emotions, and more than a handful of others, all of them shared in equal measure. This was the state in which Buffy, Willow and I left the kitchen after making our plans. It was, as we'd all agreed, the longest of gambles, but it was one worth taking. Buffy and I were in the midst ( Read more... )

Anne simply sat there listening to everyone, not really knowing if she should say anything at all. The talk of death made her feel unconfortable, hitting too close to home.

Willow's and Wesley's reactions gave Kate no doubt that that the word hadn't gotten out yet. She sighed, and tried to find a way to soften the blow. But she couldn't think of anything. " I'm sorry... I thought Lisette would have told you by now, I sent her to find you. Andi collapsed in the workroom not long ago. Heart attack or stroke or something. Carly was there when it happened...I'm sorry..."

"Oh my God, Xand, I'm so sorry, I..." Buffy's words trailed off, as Kate's hit her at the same time. "Andi." The young girl she never truly got a chance to know was dead too? There had been too much suffering, pain, and death lately... far too much death. The talk with Wes and Willow only solidified everything in place after hearing the news from both Xander and Kate. "Lisette and Carly were there." She looked at Kate, and it hit her again. "One of them could be... or even... Anne, did you know you had potential slayers in your care?" She cursed herself both for the question asked and for the apparent coldness that came with it after hearing the news of a suicide and a mysterious death in their midsts.

*Kate turned to listen to Xander, her heart filling up with more feelings of loss and sadness. And so soon after we'd brought back the sun, she mused to herself.*

Gunn's jaw went tight and it was all he could do to not react to what Xander was saying. It didn't surprise him a bit that Anya'd decided to end things. And he couldn't ever say how sorry he was.

Silently, bonelessly, Willow drifted back to her seat and reached for Kennedy's hand. It wasn't just not knowing the right words now, it was knowing any words at all. They had simply left her.

Xander raised his voice to be heard. "Listen, I'm going to miss Anya, and I'm sure Andi had friends who cared for her, but right now we need to figuring out what the fuck we're doing so wrong! "Our numbers keep diminishing and it doesn't seem like The First's having to do a whole hell of a lot to kill us off!"

Kennedy clenched her jaw tight, squeezing Willow's hand. Andi. She'd heard it, but it wasn't registering. And Anya too. But Andi had been her friend. They'd just snuck out together. That seemed so long ago now.

Still more than a little numb, Wesley nodded at Buffy's words, then turned toward Willow. "Willow, we need to know who's been called. You can do that, yes?"

"Xander..." Willow started, shocked, before dying away. "It might not be any of them at all," Willow offered to Buffy and Wesley, knowing she would know what she meant. "It would -- it would almost serve us..." They kept loosing them. Willow sighed heavily. "Yes. I can do that."

Anne looked at Buffy, and shook her head. "No, no I didn't," She didnt even know what a potential was until now.

For no reasom, and with every reason, Fred took a few more steps towards Cordy. Something small eased just a bit with the movement.
