Today, I wrote 2384 words long fic, a complete fic, for the Polish LOST ficathon. I did it. It's got manly friendship and slash subtext that is quite visible, as far as subtext goes. And even if the characters are slightly OOC, it's not so much as to make the story bad, in my opinion. And I'm happy with some of the word choices I did in it. And you ( Read more... )

Did you know that Stephen King advises writers (and aspiring writers) to write about 1,000 words DAILY? :>

I've once managed to write almost 30,000 words of fic in about two weeks, and I have periods when I'm writing a lot... but 1,000 words daily? I don't think so...

1000 words daily? It's possible. You just need an idea. And a lot of tea, I suppose ;).

I suppose I could do it, if I had a lot of free time and a good idea. But it's certainly difficult.

I think it's possible to write that much for a time, but not each and every day, you know... How good for me I'm not an aspiring writer, I just dabble in writing for fun! :D

(and yeah, King, Mister 1000+pages, would say that, wouldn't he? XD)

Everyone writes differently; what works for Stephen King - who is a fairly prolific writer - might not work for others. 1000 words a day is perfectly reasonable for someone writing full-time, and not necessarily as reasonable for someone with a day job.

1000 words a day is perfectly doable, but writing sites I've gone to also suggest 200 words a day. That works out to one 70 000 word novel per year. And for comparison, I've written 98 words in total in this post. Twice this amount per day is reasonable, right? :D We all do that on LJ daily.

I guess if you're writing for a living, 1,000 words may be even too little at times ;) and it's definitely doable (I wrote over 1,200 words yesterday;)) - but I think it's better to focus on writing *something* everyday, regardless of the length.

And besides, it may be the most frustrating thing when you have NO ideas, and you feel obliged to get those 1,000 words out of yourself ;)

Huh. I haven't read jen_deben's comment before posting this - must be a case of great minds thinking alike ;)
