Because it amuses me...

Me at around 9 in 1986. Note the hair. My mom did it. She's an engineer, not a hirdresser, and boy does it show.  Furthermore, let us note the protruding front teeth. No I haven't had work done on them since... I just grew into them. Eventually. Add to that the jumper still slightly influenced by the early 80s off-the shoulders shape in a particularly horrid shade of puce. My grandma knit it which means one of the sleeves was probably 4 inches shorter than the other.

On balance, I think this is the worst picture ever taken of me because not only is it awful, its a lesson in how not to follow fashion. I was the HEIGHT of street fashion back then. Note the permed ponytail scalping me and off the one side. the highly trendy denim shirt, buttoned up to the neck. The baggy denim dungarees (with a belt and one strap fashionably unfastened. Finished with the essential LA Gear trainers with the bows tied behind the tongues to make them protrude.

...I was probably wearing thin hoop earrings as well...

Ahhhhh the year if the shellsuit! Fire-hazard clothing for teens and yes I would have been wearing matching white shellsuit bottoms with a vile combination of stripes. I loved that shellsuit.  Still with a stupid perm although bizarrely lacking the inch thick coat of makeup that usually hid my acne...

Another solution for the acne was cucumber masks. It didn't get rid of it but it did hide it for the hour a day I wandered around with it on. For reasons best known to someone else, I thought alice bands looked really cute on me. And that's a Flintstone's dressing gown...

There was a reason for the dress, that reason being GCSE drama. I designed and made it for Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Sadly I then chose to model it myself. That hairdo however was nothing to do with the dress, I wore it like that all the time.

I finally decided the frizzy perm was vile, and unfortunately rather than doing something sensible I had it cut uber short and died red (I like the colour. But I should have learned from the first photo that I REALLY don't suit short hair)

That white thing I'm wearing was a bodysuit. Anyone remember them? THE most uncomfortable item of clothing ever designed.

And just for comparison, this one of Geoff and I was taken a week or so ago
