I have a question.

I usually do a long tail cast on. I know I'm a really tight knitter. Casting on is fine, but when I go to knit the first row, the last stitch is always very, very loose and refuses to tighten up. I'm not sure why. Would it fix itself if I just keep on knitting?

I tried loosing up my stitches and it's still happening, it's just not as obvious. The problem is I prefer the look of tighter stitches.

I was wondering if maybe an alternate cast on method would fix it, or if I'm just doing something really wrong.

Edit: Thanks for everyone's help, I didn't want to harass the comments with Thank You's!
