Music, Writing and Inspiration

If you're a music lover, you might know that there are some songs that are good for different moods and there are good songs for certain activities or tasks. I know a lot of people have playlists made specifically to inspire them when they are writing--I know I do. I have certain songs I like to listen to when reading certain stories because it helps create a mood. Then there are songs I listen to that, by their very nature, inspire pictures in my head. Sometimes this can be confusing because you would think that would automatically lead to writing--but not always. Sometimes the music lends itself to creating movies in my head, but I have trouble getting the words to paper because they keep running and there aren't any words or I'm not quick enough to catch hold of them.

More often than not, it is also a problem because the pictures the songs paint don't go along with whatever current story I'm working on...and, sometimes, it doesn't even have anything to do with my fanfiction at all. Sometimes the pictures create a story and sometimes just snapshots of unrelated scenes. Anyway. I recently discovered this new group from Texas that seems particularly good for inspiring the movies in my head, but not the words to the stories I'm working on. Kinda frustrating, but I'm a little addicted for the moment to about four of their songs. I have a very eclectic collection of music--I tend toward certain genres, but I'm not limited to them exclusively, either. This group is purely instrumental, but I find that they very strongly spark my imagination. It's really too bad I can't find a way to harness it into my current WIP and my unfinished NaNo. *sigh*

But, maybe the music will help inspire someone else in a productive way. I could have just posted links to the songs, but, instead, I'm gonna share a couple of really well-done Supernatural videos set to the music--so, double the bang for  your buck ;). I hope you enjoy them and may they lead you to inspiration.

These vids were all created by The Horizon 26. If you like what you see, please stop by and leave her some feedback.

The band is called Balmorhea and this first song is called, "Remembrance," and the video is titled, "Not Waving, but Drowning."
