Based on what you know about your characters, list three possible conflicts that could arise in your novel. Choose one of these three and flesh it out with details. What would be the rising action? The climax? The falling action? Where do the tensions lie amongst your characters?
*Bonus*: Do any of your characters own pets? Describe the pet(s) and its relationship to its owner.
1. Conflicts between Leigh and Ray. They are two very passionate people. They love each other passionately, but also fight passionately, often ending with a broken piece of furniture (which is better than someone’s nose).
2. Conflicts between Leigh and Ed. Leigh just can’t stand him and keeps a running tab of his sins (to her) to throw back in his face.
3. Conflicts between Ray and Jack. Ray feels as though Jack is a threat to his relationship with Leigh (Jack is a customer at the RECORD store where Leigh works).
*I’ve just now decided she will work at a record store so that Jack can be a regular there and that’s how she knows him and gets involved with him. It couldn’t be a bookstore because of Jack’s dyslexia.
Leigh and Ed: I have once scene in particular that keeps coming back to me. Ed is not going to be a major character in the story, but he serve to spark anger in Leigh somewhere in the background. The scene involves Leigh on the front porch of her apartment talking on the phone. She is deeply involved in the conversation and doesn’t hear Ed walk out to the balcony above and the buzzing of the electric shaver which follows. The hair floats down and gets caught by a gust of wind and is blown directly in to Leigh’s open mouth. She spits, she screams. She throws down the phone and marches off the porch to the front yard. She yells up at Ed, calling him a pervert and a faggot amongst other vulgarities.
This incident puts Leigh in some kind of mood so when Ray gets home later that afternoon, Leigh picks a fight over something stupid. They yell, they scream, Leigh storms off to the bar where she meets her friend Jack. They drink, they do blow off the toilet seat. They go back to his place...
Leigh’s dog “Sylvia” is just as out of control as everyone else in the story. She annoys people by licking their pant legs.
