There were two "firsts" for Izzy this weekend: ice cream and horses. After a slow start she decided that she loved the ice cream, and sat there with her mouth wide open hlding her arms out to indicate she wanted more. Most of her grandmother's Magnum, in fact (although not the chocolate as she doesn't seem to like that).
On arriving at the stables on Sunday morning her first reaction could be paraphrased as "Ohmigod Mummy it's a big scary monster, WAH!!!!" (although of course she mainly came out with the latter bit). So I backed right off and over the course of about 15 minutes managed to build up her confidence gradually, assisted by Mum cuddling and kissing her horse and saying "Nannie love horsie" a lot. Eventually Izzy got the confidence for a stroke (obviously we were very careful about all the stuff you need to be careful about in that situation) and then there was no stopping her. Good thing Mum's horse likes being petted. :-) However, she got bored after about ten minutes of stroking and decided that the tractors and an Escort van were much more interesting, especially the dust caps. I really thought she was going to let the Escort's tyres down at one point!
In other (non-baby) news, I went to Ipswich for
kt_peasant's birthday party on Saturday night. It was lovely to see lots of people that I don't see nearly often enough anymore, although (as ever) I didn't have nearly enough time to really talk to everyone in the way I would have liked. My conversation with Jim was particularly brief, and I feel a bit guilty about that. Hmmm. Must message him.
