workbench

I'm in the process of building a workbench in my basement. The computer is an old gateway with a 21" monitor so I can check out PDFs while I fix shit (PDFs=Owners manuals/repair manuals). The cupboard on the upper left is something I picked up in someone's trash. It had some mildew but I sanded it all off, primed it with killz. I have the doors but I haven't mounted them yet. I'm planning on putting a lock on it and storing hazardous chemicals inside (i.e. bug spray/weed killer/etc). Otherwise the workbench is all built out of scrap wood. Even the peg board was something I salvaged. I mounted a 36" shop light under the top shelf to illuminate the work area. I am also going to be mounting the vice grips soon too. For right now it is serving as a glorified shelf. The big pile of stuff is from when I dumped one of my toolboxes out and started sorting the nuts and bolts. Its pretty boring sorting that crap though, so I'm just doing it a bit at a time.

I started building it two weeks ago. I finished the frame one day (2x4 and 1x6 scraps I had laying around). The next I cut and mounted the OSB as a countertop (leftover from my roof repair). Then I spent about 3 hours last night running the electrical wire. I mounted 6 plugs (two on the right and 4 on the left) altogether, all on their own dedicated 20 amp breaker. Pulling the wire was a real pain in the ass. I even managed to accidentally punch myself in the face while doing it and cause myself to fall off a ladder - fun times. It was worth it though.

Next is to reinforce the workbench underneath the vise. I even have a spare set of computer speakers so I can rock out. I'm also going to drywall the wall behind it to help keep spiders away from under the workbench area (I found 3 black widows and a brown recluse in my garage last year, so I'm trying not to give them a place to hideout and bite me in the legs).

I'm basically just tired of trying to fix stuff sitting at the kitchen table. Hopefully now I'll be able to work on stuff with all my tools in easy reach. Plus I won't have to run from the computer to the kitchen table and back constantly.
