Well, hello.
I don't know how many of you know about this, but October 11th (Sunday) was World Zombie Day, and the Monroeville Mall in Pittsburgh, along with many other places in many other cities, hosted a Zombie Walk. I've never been a long-standing fan of zombie movies, but as someone just starting to appreciate them, this was quite an impressive event. :P I will have pictures soon to share. :D
The sun is quite bold outside today. I'm likin' it!
I finished all my work for my Programming class (I had taken an incomplete due to being more than a bit lax about it last quarter). Grade received is a C+. Brought my session down to a 2.8 GPA, but I've still got a 3.3 CGPA. Now, I'm not a grade freak or anything. I try to do well in everything and put the most into all classes that I can, and that just usually ends up giving you good grades. I mainly focus on GPA because I am intending to go to graduate school, and while the quality of your work is usually most important, GPA does come a close second in making some choices (or for being even considered in the first place). Anyway, I'm simply just happy to be DONE with that class. It is such a relief, and yes, I feel accomplished ( six weeks worth of assignments in a week). YEAH! :D Enthusiasm equivalent-of-boogying-it-down commence!!
Classes this quarter are nice. I have a photoshop/in-design class with Megan Carlton again, and not only do I really like her teaching style, but the class itself is pretty interesting and fun. While I (apparently) seem to know quite a bit in photoshop compared to some, I know that I really am very much a novice, and the refresher is doing me good. In-design will also be fun- It's a page layout design program. I'm looking forward to it.
Materials and Specifications is a little of a dry subject, but important enough, and Toth is teaching it. John. M. Toth is thus far my favourite professor at my school. He is thorough, fair, precise and specific, sociable, has an excellent sense of dry humor, and treats everyone like an adult. He isn't unreasonably strict, and he isn't a goof-off. He tells you what he expects clearly and he expects it, but he never turns down a question and he always gives complete and coherent answers. I think I'm nominating him for teacher-of-the-quarter (or year, or whatever it is) and may encourage others to do so. I looked over the recent list and don't see his name on there, and he really does deserve it. :)
Also regarding Toth, I'm really wishing him luck (in my own mind) on his NCIDQ exam. NCIDQ stands for, "National Council for Interior Design Qualification," and is a three-part, six-hour exam that an educated and/or highly experienced individual in the Interior Design field must sit for and pass in order to obtain the ability to practice while legally being able to call themselves an "Interior Designer." Kind of like a bar exam. I'm very proud to know my field has such serious certification regulations in place. Regarding Toth, it is especially important that he PASSES it (which I am not necessarily worried that he won't, if he is indeed taking it as I hear), because since he does not have a formal education in Interior Design, our school is giving him only so much time for him to pass his NCIDQ and legally obtain a proper license and title. If he does not take it or does not pass, they have to force him to resign (or so the rumor says, but you know how those can be). In that way it IS kind of sad, that the best teacher we have isn't licensed, and he might get kicked out of giving so many people a wonderful and rewarding education just because of a title. :P
I know it's in place because otherwise just anyone could get a job, but now years of experience are counting for nothing. I do hope he stays. He's wonderful. :)
Professional Practices is going to be... interesting, and Drafting Technology is going to be, well, a lot of drafting. :P It's pretty simple and straightforward though, it seems, so I'm not particularly concerned much about any of it. This quarter seems nice and simple and straightforward, and it kind of sounds bad, but I'm pretty relieved to not really have a "design" class (meaning, no really big residential projects and programming packages). I'm ready for some technical stuff and some skills practice and some lack of programming packages for a quarter. :D Yeah!
I have some homework for professional practices regarding personal/professional goals, which I'm sure many people are giving an eye roll, but I'm really glad the assignment is forcing me to really sit down and think about things I both already know and need to develop further, along with what I want to achieve and learn. I am taking it more as a personal benefit to complete the exercise than a grade towards the class. Hmm.
I really do need to just get outside though, ride my bike, see some sun and fresh air. I'll see yah. :)
