Anyway and now to the obvious:
The shortcomings. There are many, but I am not going to look at the negative side too much, I am too happy with the book right now in order to go criticizing the crap out of it just yet. BUT, there were things that simply pissed me off. Above mentioned Albus thing, top of that list.
The "Lily's eyes" thing, which she (JKR) promised would play a huge role in book 7, had nothing to do with anything. Sure they were mentioned a couple of times, but thats about it. It was not huge, it did not matter to the story and in short it did not live up to the hype that circled around it for years. I was under the impression that it would be a key to some sort of a mystery, maybe to help Harry fight You Know Who, or reveal a secret about his past, or his grandparents or something. And in the end it turned out to be nothing but the way for Snape to see the woman he loved through the eyes of her son, the son who was the spitting image of his enemy, except for those eyes.
The final chapter - Nineteen years later - could have been SO much better. That was the only disappointing cluster of pages of the entire 759 page book. For the most part it was rather dull and pointless after such a event filled book. We could have guessed, and have done a much better job at it, that exactly that was going to happen. Harry and Ginny have kids, Ron and Hermione get married, blah blah. But it will do, I suppose, it is written and done for. The only interesting part, to me, was what they named the middle son - Albus Severus. (It was painfully obvious that they would name the other two James and Lily.) I was impressed that Harry named his son after Snape, even if only in the middle name, but still. I think that kind of sums up the point I am making - everything is not what it seems. And this book has surpassed most of my expectations. Good Job, Jo Rowling =)
And all is well.
