The wonderful and most talented lossrockhart has emailed me the latest chapbook he has published. All I had to do was promise a review of the book, so I give you...

Crumbs At Midnight And Other Twisted Christmas Stories by David Templeton

I'm a big fan of dark humour as it stands and Crumbs is dark humour at it's best I think. No Disney movies are going to be made from these stories.

Lead story Crumbs at Midnight a story following the survival of a bunch of cookies. The innocent cookies left on a plate contemplate their fate with the help of an old ornament that gives them a stark warning. Is it to late for them all? Will any of them survive the night? Only time will tell. It is after all almost Midnight! It was fantastic, it had me hooked from the first word. One of those stories that just makes you have to know how it ends.

The Last Will and Testament of Ugly Joe is the second of the three stories. A story about Frozen Corners, Hermits and a mystery. What more do you really need in a story but a town some hermits and a mystery? It's a great mix and it's even got a bit of a moral to it. Or at least it seemed that way to me. Ugly Joe is dead and he's left a will asking the rest of the Hermits to have a Christmas with all the trimmings. How will they manage to give Ugly Joe the Christmas that he's asked for when they all live in caves the rest of the year? How will Henry Hay aka "lucky" help them? How will they get rid of the annoying Lucky? You'll just have to read the story and find out.

The Christmas Curse of Cuttleby the last of the three stories. I have to admit that this was my favourite of the three. A fast paced read that has you hooked right away. You just need to know what the curse is, why is the town suffering such earthquakes and blizzards. Did some evil witch put a curse on the village of Cuttleby-on-the-Pond? The poor villagers have suffered with the awful weather there for years and years but have never been able to find out the reason behind it until one day, Bobby the bakers son discovered a message at the bottom of the frozen pond. A task force is set up to translate the message. With the revelation of the message there comes a twist in the story that had me laugh out loud.

Does the book sound like something that you'd like to read? Still looking for that perfect Christmas present for that special someone?
