As it was getting dark last night I watched two garden spiders mating.
Probably the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. The male had to do all sorts of dancing and stroking to convince the female to let him place his pedepals on wherever they needed to be. Made me lonely, until this morning. I'm looking out the window and the female spider is the only one there in the web, waiting for the eggs to develop inside of her, going on with her life, alone.
And she didn't eat the male. Apparently not everyone does that. Filmy dome spiders even cohabitate in the same web sometimes.
I'll have to make sure to look after her eggs as the seasons progress.
