Oh, dear. I hope the bus thing will work out somehow. -_-; I’m kind of worried with how unsettled things are for this con with only a bit more than a week left. I’m still waiting on some things myself and it’s making me a bit nervous.
Check cards were introduced around the mid to late 90’s and they seem pretty popular here now so I’m a little surprised they’re not used in Canada. Or maybe they’re just known as debit cards in your area?
My first card was a Visa Check Card and I had that for years until my bank merged with another and switched to Debit Mastercard. They basically function like debit cards with the money coming out of your checking account when you make a purchase but you do not have to enter a pin number to use them. When used online, you can just enter them as if they were normal Visa or Mastercard credit cards. And since you’re not actually borrowing, it doesn’t matter if you don’t have credit. If any of the banks near you offer debit cards with the Visa or Mastercard logo, it would be a good thing for you to look into. I have one from HSBC and I know I saw a couple of branches when my family was in Toronto last year.
Or if you end up not being able to make it over there before it closes Thursday, I could exchange a bit for you and we can change back at the end of the weekend since the exchange rate is about 1 to 1 now. I’ll e-mail you with my cell number next week so that you can get in touch with me after you get into Boston.
I just heard back from the art show people today. Yes there actually is an art show, although only about six people have actually paid for their space. I'm not going to re register with them. I can't pack my nicer paintings, and I also don't like that there is no auction or print table to sell prints of your work. I think I'll do better at my alley table. Hoping to get my 30$ back by the end of the weekend with sales.
It looks like I can't sell anything on sunday since cosplay chess starts at 10 in the morning now. I thought it was only an afternoon thing and I'd be packing up my art table by then anyways.
I suppose it's not such a big deal, I don't sell much on the last day usually. People sometimes come back looking for things, but it's very rare. Nothing at my table is under 5$ so the people with only a bit of change left after the dealers room won't be coming to me.
Well, aside from the obvious problem that my dress form is bigger than me so my outfit tends to look a bit awkward once I finally put it on, my sofu robe is all done now.
It really bugs me, the smallest size my dress form will go down to is 34" at the bust and 16" at the neck, wheras I'm a 30" bust when bound and a 12" neck. It wasn't so bad, until I made the shoulder part for the tabbard piece. It looks too big on me but fine on the dress form. it was another WTF moment. I've decided just to live with pointier shoulders than I thought I'd have. ^^; I definitely don't have enough fabric left over to redo them.
I might see if I have time this weekend to make a nice brooch for it, otherwise I'll reuse one of my old ones. I have a golden crysanthemum one with a pearl in the middle that would look nice.

According to the AB site, there’s a money exchange place near the con center. It’s listed under stores and services: http://www.animeboston.com/location/food.shtml
