The new apartment does not have any patio or balcony space, so I'll have to harvest what I can & let the rest die, I guess.
It's a really frustrating situation. If I had any idea earlier this year that we'd be moving, I would not have begun this project in the first place.

The tomato plant I'll grab all of the colored fruit & then I might offer it to my neighbor, who I don't even know on a first-name basis but also is deeply into container gardening. (He had five sunflowers in 5-gallon buckets but two wilted recently; also he's growing corn & an assortment of other items.) The overarching problem is the rust issue I had starting a few months ago--I can't in good conscience donate plants to someone & infect the rest of their garden.
The basil, Thai basil, parsley & thyme I can probably find ways to store (dried, chopped in ice cubes), but even the latter doesn't truly preserve the fresh taste of picked-off-the-plant, which I've really begun to cherish with regards to the basil. So I don't know.
Your idea isn't useless at all. Just not practical. I don't have shelf space for these plants & again I wouldn't want to home them inside after the outside time.
