YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
I was recently in charge of a 4th grade class. One boy told another boy, "Yeah, you try to act like you're gangsta but you're not," in very sad attempted-ebonics. This kid was the popular guy, so the whole class laughed.

I shut them all up and told them, "There is not one of you that are 'gangsta.' No one in this school is 'gangsta.' No one in this TOWN is 'gangsta!' You are suburban 9 year olds and you sound ridiculous!"

They were deer in headlights. The best part was that their teacher walked in when I was saying this, and she laughed and said, "listen to your aide, boys and girls."
