That's good advice; it's advice that I'm unwilling to take because it might make me impossible to find by new people in new situations, especially if they chose not to belong to a network. But yeah, if I start getting a bunch of random requests, I'll have to change my settings.
It's also possible to set yourself up so that the "Add Friend" button is disabled when people find you in searches - I might try that if and when the need arises.
I will allow for "meeting" new people who I've "talked" to through a group or through another friend, even if we've really only sent a couple messages back and forth but not actually *met* each other in real life.
But completely unrelated people who have no connection to you whatsoever? no. I'd almost want to report Greg Gregson. He doesn't even sound like a real person. And that reply looked more like an automated message to me.
