The Proposed Central Library
This would be a great thing for downtown Halifax, and I'm all for it. But I'm actually posting because of some gems from the appendices of the 160-page report. You should definitely check this out.

Tell us what you DISLIKE about the library branch that you most frequently use.
Children's section in basement, too divided into separate areas.
would be nice to have a computer area closer to the play area so that while the kids play I could search for books and keep my eyes on them
Keshen Goodman is like a great big hall and the noise reverberates. The Children's area should be separated more from the rest of the library.
THE NOISE FROM THE KIDS. THIS MUST STOP.
I dislike that it is often noisy and crowded with children. If I want to relax and read at the library, I always go to Alderney because of how the kids' materials are upstairs and the computer areas are segregated.

As always, it's going to be impossible to please everybody. I've got a simple solution - just ban children from the new library. There, problem solved.

When I picked up the mail this afternoon, I found a 'buy one, get one free' offer. The unusual part is that it's from a Kia dealership in Charlottetown. If you buy or lease a 2008 model (Sedona, Magentis, Sorento, or Spectra) or the 2009 Sportage, they'll throw in a 2009 Kia Rio for free. Or you can just buy the Rio for $4,995 (plus tax, of course). At least that's the price they printed in the brochure... It might be a mis(leading)print.
Whoops. Yeah, I realize now that I misunderstood this. You only get the Rio free when you buy the 2008 Sedona. The Rio is $4,995 when you get the 2008 Magentis, Sorento, Spectra, or 2009 Sportage. The Rio by itself actually costs over $15,000. So there goes that idea!

Holy crap. Typography is dead. Oh, holy crap about the price, too - I'll see how things go when I'm back at school, but the implications are overwhelming - I could buy a [second hand] CAR! But the problem with buying a car is that you're buying the car you use plus the car you don't use. Forget gas, it's insurance and maintenance that turn me off. And aren't we all supposed to be using public transit, and don't I have a brand new bus route in my neighbourhood? Well, yes, but not on weekends... =) A car also offers impulse travel opportunities, as well as the chance to get out of town whenever I want. Hrmmmmm. Well, if I get a scholarship along the way in the next little while, it'll be something to consider. It sure doesn't have to won't be this car, either.
