two questions!

Flist, what should I bake today? Seriously, this is a question of utmost importance. I haven't baked anything in weeks, and then I tortured myself by looking at Cakespy and a few of my favourite recipe blogs, and now I want to try something new. Sort of. ALSO - tell me if you have any favourite recipe blogs, because I am always happy to torture ( Read more... )

I love my mac to death! I only use it for school and ljing and sometimes downloading movies and songs, but I don't know, it's so RELIABLE and easy to use, I think it's worth the money.

Alright, well if you think it's worth it! Did you switch from having a PC? Was it an easy transition to make? (I may not do well with change.)

I was switching from a desktop PC, yeah, and there were a couple keyword short cuts I had to learn, but that was really easy, and by now I'm completely comfortable with it. They are super userfriendly, it's so easy to search the computer for any file and yeah, it's idiot proof, which I needed, and never gets viruses or anything.

Well, the idiotproof thing is reassuring, because I struggle way more with computers than I should, considering how much time I spend attached to one.

Yeah, I have a HP. Worst. Idea. Ever.

Oh good, so it's not just me being unlucky! Seriously, I've had to replace the screen, the harddrive, the battery...some of those multiple times. Also, the keyboard is falling apart and my speakers don't work. Biggest joke ever. But that leaves me wondering what brand is more reliable.

Oh man, sounds like you've had even more problems than I have, and I wouldn't get another HP with the issues I've had!!

I don't even know what is reliable, because like... Dell for instance. I know people who swear by Dell, best computer they've ever owned, and then others are all I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER DELL. I wish computers & laptops weren't so subjective. How hard can it be??

BUTTING IN HERE -- Dells can be hit or miss, but the past couple of years they have steadily been making more reliable computers.

The new Dells are pretty bitching. My little sister has a Dell XPS and it is awesome.
I have an HP laptop and it was horribly horrible until I upgraded to Windows 7 and took off iTunes and all of my music & pictures (which are all safely on my desktop, don't worry). Now it is awesome and fast.
I don't believe in Macs because they are ridiculously overpriced and I own an obscene amount of expensive programs (mostly Adobe products) that I only have the Windows versions for. I also don't appreciate the Apple aesthetics as much as some people do and since my college degree is in design I am an authority on the subject.

You should not-bake Oreo Truffles because I really want some right now. They only require melting chocolate and not much actual baking. Also, red velvet cupcakes and then you can decorate them all cute. Or fancy cookies! I love all baked goods!

Hmmm, okay, I'll look into Dells, then!

See, I don't own any expensive programs, and aesthetics isn't really a huge deal to me...I just want it to be pretty reliable, is all.

Ah, truffles...not so much my thing. I love the baking process of baking. Possibly cupcakes, though; I am very tempted!

Yeah, then there isn't really much point in spending that much. You can probably get a mid-range PC that will work great for a few years. As long as it isn't HP (they are the worst, right now - despite how much faster it runs - there are three annoying lines in the middle of my screen and half of my keys stop working randomly. >:( )

I only like oreo truffles. Cupcakes are actually my favorite, I just want a lot of chocolate right now! I am projecting. :)

Windows 7 is pretty good, I've had my Acer for about 4 months now and it hasn't given me any problems. If you're only using it for writing and the internet, then there isn't really a reason to buy a Mac.

Yeah, that's sort of the impression I've been getting. The reviews I've read for Acer haven't been terribly positive, though.

Macs are pretty and shiny, but they cost a lot more than most Windows computers. I think all the different brands have their flaws, you'll just have to choose one. (The main reason I chose mine was because it was a nice shiny colour ;D)

I think you're definitely right - I just kind of need to make a choice. (An excellent reason!)

I have a Mac, and I love it to death! They are expensive, though, and whether you get what you pay for probably depends on how much you use it.

Currently on my to-bake list are thesecookies, and these brownies. And those two blogs are my very favourite cooking blogs, although this one is also pretty good. (I have a food blog addiction, seriously.)

Well, I mean - I use my computer constantly. And it's obviously horrifying to have it break in any way. But I definitely do not use it for much more than the basics.

Oh man, smittenkitchen and I are terribly well-acquainted. Those cookies do look delicious. And though I am not a big fan of marshmallows, I had totally forgotten about Joy the Baker, so thanks for that! Also, I'd never seen use real butter, so thanks for that one, also! (Oh god, me too.)

I basically only use mine for internet/writing, although I've messed around a bit with iMovie and graphics software and stuff, and I'm pretty convinced that I'll never go back to using a PC unless I absolutely have to. But I don't want to sound like one of those people who are all 'Macs are clearly superior in every way'!

I'm obsessed with smittenkitchen. Everything I've made from her recipes have turned out amazing (have you made her blondies? I think I died and went to heaven). And I basically want to be Joy the Baker when I grow up, I adore her. I have a load of food blogs on google reader, but I can't think of any other really great ones.

You are not sounding like one of those people, don't worry! You're giving an honest opinion, and I appreciate that. Every person I've talked to seems to say the same thing.

Oh god, I know, right? It's like she can do no wrong! I haven't made her blondies, no - maybe I'll make those today - but I'm in love with her orange pecan chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. IN LOVE.
