So I got fired again! I cried on the walk home and then I cried on my friend's couch and tonight I am going out to watch the hockey game because hopefully being in a public place will deter me from crying. Let's just move on, shall we? I'm being way too pathetic.
I have a couple memes to do! Firstly, that book meme:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest (unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1).
Prices in the counter-economy can be fairly steep. Murray Fromson, a C.B.S. correspondent, once hired a free-lance Soviet cameraman to do some work on the side and was stunned at the fee demanded by this private operator - three rubles ($4) for each frame that he shot.
"It's the spirit of the free enterprise," the Soviet photographer saidin self-defense.
"Yeah, without the spirit of competition," Fromson countered. "In a free market, you'd price yourself right out of business."
-The Russians, Hedrick Smith
Yes, I am aware that it totally looks like I went for the "intellectual" book, but I swear I didn't. I was at this epic garage sale on Saturday and there was a church book sale that had a "fill a bag of books for a dollar" deal, so. I picked up a lot of trashy romance novels and some pulp sci-fi, and then "The Russians", because I have this fascination with Russia. (And no, it has nothing to do with Johnny Weir. I swear.)
And this icon one, for
sceaterian - Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
- Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
- Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
- This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee.
#1.
This has been my default since I first started on LJ. It's actually from a larger photo taken by a girl who I went to an arts camp with, and I just sort of fell in love with it the first time I saw it. The colours and the framing and just...everything. I don't really know what it says about me, exactly, but I still like it a lot.
#2.
Something I immediately loved about Jon Walker was how relaxed he seems, and I love the idea of him playing barefoot, just sort of chilled out. I think this is a perfect JWalk icon for those reasons.
#3.
Something about this pose feels very vulnerable to me, and that's Pete in a nutshell. That's sort of why I fell in love with him in the first place, to be honest; he kind of bares his soul in a way most celebrities don't. (And as
sceaterian pointed out, I totally do have a fascination with feet. Not a fetish, don't get me wrong, just...a fascination.)
#4.
This is, I guess, my "oh god oh god I can't handle the world at all" icon. I think I first got it when I was having a not-so-great year and felt like that a lot - like I just wanted to curl up under my covers and disappear - and now I have fewer of those moments, but I still think the image is pretty gorgeous.
#5.
Smoking is only sometimes attractive to me. When RDJ is doing it is one of those times. Also, I love how he looks so bored - like he is just so above whatever is going on around him. Mostly I just love him a lot, in case that wasn't clear.
#6.
Um, I really like tea? And I really like domesticity, in fics and in real life. This icon makes me think of rainy days when all you want to do is curl up on the couch with a good book and a steaming mug of tea.
If I happen to owe you a comment (which is pretty much all of you, sorry!) I promise I'll get to them this weekend. Pinky swear.
Hope everyone has had an excellent week, and has all sorts of awesome things lined up for the weekend!
